Its Northwich Victoria - AWAY!

Recommended Posts

Could have been better ie a home tie - but could have been worse as well - I didnt fancy Kidderminster (if they get past Braintree) or Stevenage/Morecambe away.

Would setlle for a semi against either Grays or Welling, leaving Stevenage/Morecambe/Salisbury and Kidderminster/Halifax to beat each other in the other semi.

To be honest, I am quite happy avoiding Welling, and Grays until the final, wherever that will be.

A local derby would generate a deal of interest from local floating fans, especially if the final were not far away.

Gillingham or Charlton wouldn't be bad venues, as they would seem full, although I'm sure LD and the team wouldn't mind if it bwere at the Emirates stadium.

Rarely post these days (simply read the forums) but the issue of whether or not Away Coach travel will be running seems to be a recurring theme.

Given the teams performance on the field this season should we not be running Away coaches to all games?

The Fleet Trust minutes indicates there is nearly 17K
(October 2006 pending invoices for bills) in the bank. Can it not afford to subsidise the cost of a few Away coaches running?

This is just a query rather than intending to offend anyone involved with the trust. How much does a coach cost to an Away game?

And before anybody asks . . . No I don't go to away games so I guess I'm not a "real" supporter laugh

It is an interesting one Jim and I see where you're coming from. If the Trust was to subsidise away travel to get a half full coach then it wouldn't bankrupt us but it wouldn't leave us in a very good stead for the future. If getting a coach meant more people coming along so that eventually we would have a full coach to every away game then maybe it would be worth looking into but it won't, so it would be a waste of time and money. The Trust is not here for a few people to get a a far off away game. A coach to somewhere like Stevenage would cost about £400, I have no idea how much it would cost going to Northwich.

Also nobody thinks you not a real supporter for not going to away games, the money stumped up by yourself last season trying to attract new fans suggests that you are a true fan, some people just can't make away games due to other commitments. Thankfully I don't have such commitments but one day I probably will which will mean I will make less away games.

Away travel is quite competative. I think Halifax (via Scotch Corner) was £17 or so. My friend went Doncaster same day to see gills and it cost £34.

My understanding is the Trust make very little if anything from away travel.

Any subsidy should come from an outside source in way of a donation to maybe pay minibus hire etc......

However , I agree with Harry , that unless its goign to create income for next x number of years , the money may be better of elsewhere liek wages , kit for the players , maybe a bit towards hotel overnight for long trips or something.

Its just a shame that the 1st season back in the Conference, we were fighting to avoid relegation and were taking full coaches to games such as Leigh RMI, and yet, now we are in with a realistic chance of at least a play off position, we cant get more than a handful willing or able to travel.

Like others, I cant get to Saturday away games (for family reasons) and I wouldnt criticise anyone else specifically for not travelling for whatever reason (some like me will have personal issues, others will work in jobs that demand Saturday employment and others will struggle to pay to go to football every week), but we need to persuade those who go to Premiership games rather than travelling away, that their local side needs (and deserves) their support. One suspects its the younger fans who are more able to travel yet we still have to convince this section of the community that we are a "real" football team (for want of a better phrase).

Returning to the draw, lets not forget that Northwich gave us a fright at their place earlier this season & that it took 2 goals in 3 minutes (including a corker from Slatts) to earn a victory - we mustnt be complacent if we want a semi final place.

I would hate to bring this up, it has been on my mind for the past couple of seasons. I know a few mates who have said that they would like to do the occasional away match by minibus/coach, but they are prevented to go on the minibus/coach, because they would have to be a member of the Fleet Trust to travel.

As an example, a couple of my mates wanted to go to Tamworth last season (just for the odd away match), but they would not pay £10, plus another £10 membership for the Fleet Trust, to go to that one away match.

This is not the case at other clubs. Other clubs allow anybody to travel on supporter's coaches, but give those people who are members of a trust or a club a discount on away travel.

I know the club is trying to save money, but why not do what the away travel did for Leigh RMI away a few seasons back: do a discounted away match - Leigh RMI, as far as I can recall, cost £10, and the club is located up North.

Do not get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for the Trust (I myself am a member) and the people who run it, but I feel that this is a valid point to consider for future seasons.
