They certainly dont rate the ref! (Mind you neither did we) Not sure the thought that "even Macdonald said it wasnt a penalty" could be agreed though. Can anyone say if their penalty claim was a penalty? I agree that from the other end I thought "Oh, no" but the ref was closer & there didnt seem many complaints.

The most biased report I have ever read!!

We fall over in the box and commit the worst tackles of the game, yet they only give a away poor challenges.

Funny how the selective use of adjectives can make a report read they were unlucky and entirely innocent of any poor sportsmanship.

I'm sure those lucky enough to be there would be able to pick holes in their report.

But from a club managed by that moron Westley, what can you expect?

I believe Rushden have the making of a good team. It was such a shame that they resorted to the bullying tactics displayed. It was obvious that they sought to influence a poor and over officious referee by over reacting to robust tackles on their players that they were content to dish out all through the game. As for the mass scurmishes, that appeared to be the result of their desire to stir up, it was pathetic; Fleet players must learn from that intimidation. It certainly upset Fleet's game with the midfield battle going Rushden's way; maybe that was what it was all about. It was obvious from the outset of the game that the referee was going to be over officious from the display of his body language and the tone and strength of his whistle. It came as no surprise that so many cards were given. Was he being assessed and trying to give the impression of being a no nonsense official, I wonder; if so he did more harm to his reputation than good. Why is it some referees can effect control on a game without resorting to brandishing yellow cards for such punitive actions as we saw yesterday? Obviously some of the incidents merited the cards and there is no excuse for the straight red. But why so many cards? Hopefully, both the players and the referee will reflect on yesterday's game and learn from it.

I also enjoyed:
Quote:
Beardsley makes a perfectly timed tackle and takes the ball...Gravesend player sees fit to throw himself 6ft up in the air....Beardsley booked.

And what about Beardsley's tackle in the second half which earned him a yellow? He took the ball didn't he?

watson did very little wrong to get sent off, and that the decision to even call a foul, let alone book beardsley, was laughable.

Blind AND stupid...

I can never remember winning there. In fact I can never remember us even playing well against them.

I remember a 4-1 defeat there in a very bad-tempered game when we were gunning for promotion (92ish) and the antics of a psycho baldy steward. But I recall a 3-0 win there maybe the season after...?

Well the record isn't too bad.

I must have seen all the defeats!

As for Psycho Steward? Does anyone else remember the game at their place where the aforementioned Psycho steward was paryletic in their bar beforehand? It was the old cricket pavilion as I recall.

When one of their players was injured he appeared with a stretcher and helped carry him off, then promptly dropped his corner of the stretcher as they made their way to the dressing room (ie: prefabricated hut) and neatly deposited the player on the deck!

Happy days of The Beazer Homes league!
