Canvey Island -vs- Waltham Forest

I think this will be a tough game for the Yellows today, with three key players missing through suspension/injury. Forest will be no push-overs and a team that I think will be looking for the three points away from home.

Think the line-up will look something like:

Wiseman

West, Kreyling, Jesus, Bourne

Jay, Roberts, Edgar, Corbell

J. Curran, Rugg/Luck

SUBS: Capleton, Lamb, Batch, Reade, Luck/Rugg

COME ON CANVEY!!!!!!

Reckon Ruggy will partner Curran up front. You can hardly drop Ruggy in the form he is in at the moment.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Colin Wall on the bench instead of Danny Lamb.

WHAT DID I MISS!?! I walk home along the high street and four cop cars with blues and twos race past me to the ground!

The game itself was to be honest, quite dire. We looked very lacklustre until we equalised, which reminded me very much of the Waltham Abbey game and I think thanks to their Goalkeeper we were lucky to come away with a draw after dominating for long periods.

Saying that I thought the defence was pretty solid when called into action today although sometimes it needs just the simple touch to clear the danger, nothing fancy.

We do still seem to be lacking some width though in places. When Matt Reade came on he gave us space down the left that we hadn't had all game and he used his feet and his head to tackle, come out with the ball, beat people and still get a decent cross in. I'd like to see Matt have a run on that left hand side if Corbell is going to be out for much more.

I thought West did well coming in at right back, the same for Bourne on the other side. Clyde and Ryan do seem to link up well together but at the moment can't seem to get the ball forward, it always has to go wide, which I have no problem with as long as their is someone out there.

First time I've seen Ian Luck, he looked good. Would definately like to see more of him on the pitch once he's got over his knock. Can't argue with a draw I suppose although it seems to take us until the 80th minute now to get into top gear.

As for the farce after the final whistle... well it was the most entertaining bit of the afternoon! You could tell their number 10 wanted some and I'm sure the Canvey fans under the shed would've been more than happy to oblige with the way he thumped that ball at 'em. Would like to see the photos taken of the tunnel fracas!

Found this on the Forest forum:

"See Forest attracted highest league crowd of the day at Canvey. Must be the attractive football Forest play !!"

Have to say I'd disagree, it's the entertaining after party everyone loves! grin

Roll on Wingate & Finchley, lets get these three points secured!

(I'll just copy what i wrote from our site...im a lazy sod :D)

Quite a poor first half but certainly a much better second half. Lanre taken down to earn a penalty which Andy Thomas put away. Again we took our foot off the game but after Jason's error we managed to pull it back. Before anyone gets on Jason's back, he pulled off a fine save earlier in the half with his foot which kept us in the game. He's kept us in more games than he's done mistakes. Karem touched the ball once and scored after coming on, and all in all a draw was a fair result.

After the game there were a few Canvey supporters giving it a lot of mouth next to the tunnel. Apparantly something to do with racist remarks during the game from the home support. Our players gave some back, which prompted a Canvey fan to spit at our players, who retaliated by squirting some water. This caused the spitting Canvey fan to go balistic and he started trying to beat down the tunnel wall to get into the tunnel and have it out with our players! A few of the young Canvey fans thought it would be funny to stone our minibus on the way out too. When we left there were still 7 police cars there. Although, the police wasn't really needed: The Canvey stewards dealt with everything very well.

Finally, do you always charge for car park? Nothing against it, we do it too, but Hornchurch got the hump and said they would do it to us when we go there!

Yes - although there is plenty of free parking around the vicinity. We have to charge for the parking so we can pay the police bill wink

Yep - Hornchurch (and a few others) had the hump about paying for parking - oh well.......

Don't think the number 10 helped matters by booting the ball into the crowd and hitting a young kid. Then laughed about it and goaded the home support. It was not far from where I was standing so if he had hit me and broke my glasses I would have gone ballistic. You can understand why some people got angry.

No excuse for some of the stuff that happened in the tunnel though and it was best to leave the situation and let the management deal with it.

The Waltham Forest manager didn't like what his player did and I'm sure he will have a word.

A bit angry about today so probably best to leave it at that. and let the relative parties sort it out.

Quality post Unc! My understanding is what pee'd our guys off was the discriminatory way that Waltham Forest applied these sundry charges to away fans only. When they visit us I guess a six pack and a bottle of Tizer behind the bar will be edequate for their needs.

The way I saw it was:

- Towards the end of the game, their No. 10 concedes a foul by tripping a Canvey player.
- Canvey fans are unhappy and variations of "dirty [****!!****]" etc. are called, nothing racist I might add.
- Forest and Canvey players have a bit of handbags.
- Final whistle blows, Forest No. 10 launches ball at the fans in the shed.
- Canvey fans give another rendition of "dirty [****!!****]" etc.
- Forest and Canvey players have a little more handbags.
- Forest No. 10 goades Canvey fans and they give a little more abuse, by now I've still not heard anything racist.
- Players leave the pitch towards the tunnel, where something kicks off, but is dealt with by the Canvey stewards. Those under the shed wouldn't have had time to get round to the tunnel by that time, (judging by Linney's running grin) so it could've be something totally unrelated.

I have no idea what happened afterwards, only that I witnessed the police cars turning into the ground as I walked home.

By the time I got around there it was all over. Their manager took a lot of stick unfortunately and in fairness to the guy he did say he would deal with it.

What made me angry was their player acting like a thug. He could have seriously injured someone doing what he did but instead of apologising he tried to fight everybody, the sort of guy who probably tries picking a fight with someone on a Saturday night.

I have to say it left a seriously bad atmosphere at the club after the game

Missed all that, in the bar by then, very subdued it was after the game, a poor match, would have taken a point but to go 2 - 1 up at that stage, was very disappointed to then chuck it away with poor defending. Sorry to say, West got turned inside out, for their second goal, should never have happened, lets hope we sort out this chucking away points at home to these teams. Once again, the officials were truly dreadful.

Just like against Tilbury.

On the other topic, perhaps our fans shouldn't be so leary. I was standing next to a large group of older Canvey fans who found the behaviour and general abuse hurled from the bus shelter to officials and opposition as unnecessary, stupid and offensive.

If we are trying to rebuild Cnvey as a family club we need to rein this in a bit.

I think you're probably right YB. We have some passionate fans at our club myself included and unfortunately we tend to vent our frustrations off very publicly.

The guy was out of order but none of us helped matters certainly in the aftermath.

he was trying to apologise but the ref wouldnt let him over to the fans (the way they were reacting i cant blame him)

it doesnt matter what the player done, the behaviour of the Canvey fans was terrible. plus if you are gonna abuse someone for 90 minutes (i dont know if the no.10 was getting abuse for that long but the no.11 certainly was (i could hear it from up at the camera stand)) sometimes people will bight back. now this doesnt excuse the behaviour of their no.10, for that he should be seriously punished, but there is absolutely no excuse for the way a small amount of fans reacted

Spitting at someone in all walks of life is [****!!****] disgusting on it's own. Perhaps the Forest player and Canvey fan in question should submit written apologises to one another's clubs!

I have been coming to watch Canvey for years. I dont know what happened between their player/players and our supporters in what everyone calls the Bus shelter, but what i witnessed as the players came off was appalling. to be fair it only involved two of "our" fans, but even so it was disgusting behaviour. Something i never hope to see at the Lane again.

Those people running our club are mature responsible people, i am sure they will deal with those involved in an appropriate manner.
