Ermanno Licursi, a 40 year old director of Sanmartinese of the amateur third division, was killed yesterday after fighting between fans following Sanmartinese's 2-1 win over Cancellese.

 

As the players were leaving the pitch, fans invaded and started kicking and punching and throwing stones. Licursi intervened to try and stop the fighting, but was hit. He managed to leave the pitch but collapsed and died shortly afterwards.

 

Police are questioning 20 people, including both fans and players.

 

It's another sad indictment of a minority of idiots in Italy who follow football.
