Iron Webbo
They, er, how shall I say, er, seem to have come off (as it were) in certain cities and villages in Essex.
GazzaBTFC
I saw one passing me down the M25 last week as I came back from Tonbridge...
Balmoral Claret
Cities? - bit of an admission isn't it IW (wait a minute though - that was tongue in cheek wasn't it). Besides, it seems that a couple of wheel nuts came loose in a town 10 miles north of the city yesterday.
GazzaBTFC
Ahhhhh, yes BC but you forget, you are still a Ryman League side and they are not... ...and they won promotion outright.
Balmoral Claret
Err....yes, but what's that got to do with wheels coming loose/off. OK, so the Clarets have all 4 missing at the moment, but I'm sure we'll find them and put them back on - EVENTUALLY!
Ryan.c
I wouldn't write the squatters off just yet. We are temporarily pisssing ourselves with laughter at their shambles of a club, but we all know that in football things can change very quickly. I have noticed that on the 'floppybox' they've given their own side a right 'going over' (no committment apparently). No mention of 'King out' though! I wonder why? GazzaBTFC
I would concour Ryan. The season isn't over by any shakes. Tomorrow there is a real chance for the Wombles to go one point above us thus forcing us to 6th place...and Chelmo to 5th...
Iron Webbo
Gaz, Is that before or after they lose their points for alledged registration irregularities? Balmoral, yes, a rare thing at Crittalls, a defeat (after just one in the preceding 14). But no wailing and knashing of teeth down Cressing Road. We're having a great time - Kidderminster next in the Trophy!
GazzaBTFC
Before. I don't think the Ryman has ruled on AFC yet...waiting the result of their findings...
Rick the Dick
Appareantly Chelmo may also face a deduction for fielding an inelegible fan.
GazzaBTFC
Cruel Rick... So, how is the commitment discussion going over there?
Rick the Dick
I think the chief perpe-traitor (did you see what I did there!) has "lost hart" after recieveing a barage of critisism. I see Sean's keeping his head down. Wise move.

The Town Crier
Something I noticed on the Soapbox which I found interesting was: It was pointed out that an average gate of 300 more (surprise surprise) was worth 50k per season, (what with kids and VAT I would make it a lot less) but lets use the 50k anyway. The point the chelmo guy was making was that we lower gated clubs like Braintree and ourselves could/would/should be jealous to at least some degree. Which set me thinking. 50k over a 40 week season = £1250pw, very nice indeed. But then I began to think about value for money and financial housekeeping. If for example the "bigger" club spend more than the additional income of £1250 on players, which is the better run club, who is getting value for money, which set of supporters are the happier. I know our friends at Chelmsford will take this as a cheap dig, but it isn't, the comments mentioned genuinely did make me think and consider the point from a perspective of all the teams in our division and their relevant League positions. Anyway the conclusion I came to re Billericay was that we are competitive, enjoying our season, and getting good value for money. Where we end up season end is where we end up, but wherever it is, it won't change my view re our vfm.

So the Chelmo supporters are right to feel cheated, let down and short changed as they are a much bigger club than ours... ...and have hit a slump which is not becoming of a club of their financial standing. To be honest, even with the "disapointments" (which are all part of the roller coaster ride - no insult intended) of the previous seasons, this and the past two have been very enjoyable... ...and this one is even more interesting with the competition really looking as if it will go to the wire!!! extaffyjim
Good post TC. I saw that Chelmo post too, but couldnt be bothered to argue with it. It certainly would be a lot less than the £50k he quoted on gate money, but maybe with extra drinks, programmes money etc that might bring it up. Do you think that Chelmsford spend more than £1250pw more than us on players then? I would guess they have quite a hefty wage budget, wot with all them conference players, but i wouldnt be able to put a figure on it. Anyway, £7.50 to watch Billericay 2-1 Chelmsford, thats what i call value for money! Gazza i agree, got the potential to be the most exciting season of football since ive been supporting the club at least. Remember that game 2 seasons ago when we played Yeading. I believe it was 1st vs 2nd at the time, and if we had won we would have gone top, that was after being a long way behind earlier in the season. It would be fantastic if we could have a similar '6 pointer' this year, maybe away to Margate at the ned of Feb, or away to Bromley in April. Whatever happens im sure itll be exciting and well enjoy it.
Iron Webbo
Spot on TC & Co. VFM. You've had, we've had it. Without giving it all BBB, we're all really enjoying our football. All I will say about those big city clubs is that if I'd had £1.7m to spend on a ground and hundreds of thousands lent to me interest free, I would want to be a hell of a lot closer to the pitch! sargon
I think the bloke made a fair point If 100 pay £8=£800 x21=£16800 therefore 300 over season =£50400 Not rocket science is it. Fair enough there may be kids and VAT in there but there would also be stand dwellers paying more than £8. Seems a reasonable point I would have thought,as a Swifts fan,I think we would all like an extra 300 including Chelmo.
extaffyjim
17.5% Vat off that price is quite a chunk though. Dont think Chelmsford charge extra for stand access. Also if kids, oaps and students for example make up half of that 300, and only pay £4, that 50400 goes down to 37800. Take VAT off that and thats only 32k odd. Noones arguing that we wouldnt like more fans, everyone would like an extra 300 people through the gate, in any league. That wasnt the point being argued
