A good post Margateshot. The over-zealous stewarding picking up on niggling things that you don't get a comment on anywhere else only served to wind people up more what with the inept and biased refereeing. I believe after the beer throwing incident (no idea who was responsible) the stewards did get fired up and were looking to make an example of people (uncalled for I must add) for petty things at a time when Margate supporters were very unhappy with the referee. For example, a warning was handed out by a steward for a fan walking to the perimeter fence and shouting "disgrace". Can anyone tell me what is wrong there? There was no swearing, but that one incident was deemed enough to hand out a warning, at a time when people were frustrated enough as it was. So the stewarding was OTT in my opinion. PeterW, the only incident I saw that overstepped the mark was the beer throwing. Ok the swearing isn't good but as I say there was a lot of pent up emotion.

How were the stewards clueless in ejecting a Margate supporter who threw his beer over a linesman? What other option would there be - a free refill :-) ?

You read that wrong! It was two statements, I apologise if it didn't come across as such. Ejecting the (now known as 'not a Margate supporter') was correct. Some of your stewards were clueless - telling your supporters not to chant because it 'might wind MFC supporters up' was ridiculous. And we have every right to call the ref a disgrace, he was although their might have been a minority that said worse. Well, they're adults (supposedly) and I'm not going to mother them and tell them otherwise.

The game was spoilt by the ref and your goalkeeper, who should have kept his remarks at the end to himself. We were having some good banter with him in the first half and I felt he spoilt that at the end with his actions.

At the end, your supporters, as ever were friendly and hospitable and I personally look forward to maybe another fixture next year, in the Conf South!

A fan gets a warning for walking to the perimeter fence to call the ref a disgrace. If true that is crazy, throwing beer over the lino is unaceptable but a warning for telling the ref what you think is pc gone mad. Good job i didnt go i would have called the ref a lot worse.

MF, i think it is very hard to keep discipline when the referee was making bad decision after bad decision. As for the beer throwing incident, now people would say that it is unnaceptable behaviour which it is, but i thought that alcohol isn't allowed on the terraces. Two grounds which i have been to, which has allowed beer on the terraces has resulted in unnaceptable behaviour. Whitstable and now Hampton & Richmond, so had Hampton & Richmond enforced a ban on alcohol on the terraces this incident would not have happened.

Alex, it is not Hampton & Richmonds fault that some idiot(s) chose to behave in a totally unacceptable way. Neither was it Whitstable's. If beer was not available I am sure in both cases that the idiots hell bent on trouble would have availed themselves of some other means.

There are scant mitigating circumstances I can see, and I certainly do not think any excuses count for anything, neither does diverting the blame. And as for keeping discipline, that's what self-control is for.

I am pretty embarrassed at what happened yesterday, particularly as the very nice fans and officials were wishing us well as we left. Let's hope we do not get anything like this again.

Allowing alcohol to be comsumed on the terraces at any ground is obviously an incredibly stupid idea, you really are asking for trouble. As for self-control, we do not all choose to stand there like a lemon whilst the referee is ruining the game, some of us have too much passion for this club to allow some incompetent referee to make mistake after mistake, and we feel something should be said. I'm not ashamed of shouting "Disgrace" and "You're not fit to referee" at the ref as these were my opinions of him. If you have a problem with people expressing this passion on the terrace then I suggest you stand elsewhere.

June, you say there are scant mitigating circumstances. A few things I heard yesterday may possibly change that opinion of yours. I admit I take no pride in saying a few choice words, although in the heat of the moment in those circumstances some things needed to be said for me personally (all a matter of personal judgement in the heat of the moment of course). I admire your self-control.
