The 3-0 win at ETU

Boy was that cold! Cold enough to freeze a polar bear’s nuts off. But still a great performance by our boys to warm, well, the heart if not the extremities.

The pitch was actually in better condition than when we played there last year, but of course still has the lumps and bumps to disrupt passing teams like Margate.

No keeper on the bench for Gate, with Charlie back between the sticks to entertain us.

We got off to a great start, with Abbo putting in a cross too deep, but the goalie fumbled under pressure from Danny, and Pinns was there to bang it in.

There was a bit of ebb and flow until about the 20 minute mark, when Charlie fumbled a shot and then saved the rebound. That led to a few shaky minutes when we saw him stranded outside the 6-yard box, getting lobbed, only for Greg to clear off the line, plus a flap at an attempted lob.

Strangely that may have worked in our favour, because the opponents went into ‘dodgy keeper’ mode for a while, hitting hopeful shots from 30 yards.

At the end of that little spell Lee Williams wasted probably the home team’s best chance when through on the keeper. I think that’s the very same Willow that used to play for us a few years back.

Not much else in the first half except for poor refereeing and a lovely lob by Skins on the stroke of half-time, just tipped over by the keeper.

Not too much to worry about after the break, as ETU were ineffective despite making changes.

Hockey’s goal (apparently that’s what we call him now) came on about 71, Abbo feeding Jay, whose lovely weighted through ball found Danny on the right of the box. A classic poachers goal: beats two defenders and slices it in from the narrowest of angles.

Pinns’ goal in injury time was a real beaut. He played a cheeky back-heel to Jacko, who fed it back perfectly for Jamie to hammer in low to the keeper’s right. Near enough goal of the season so far for me.

So overall we were streets ahead in class, and managed a good imitation of our skilful passing game on a very bumpy surface. 3-0 was about right.

The ref was very poor throughout, giving decisions nobody else could see, and missing blatant fouls. It is that sort of inconsistency that encourages players to question the official, and of course he then reacts by throwing yellow cards about: McKimm and Trott on our side.

Worthy of note: Trotty at the back with some great saving tackles, Greg with good defending and reading of the game, Skins and Jacko on the left (couldn’t see why Skins was subbed: hope he is ok), Jay and Macca in the midfield both very influential, and Abbo tried very hard and did some good work.

I am glad that Pinno goal came along because I was really struggling to pick a man of the match. It was probably between him, Danny, Trotty, and the two central midfielders at that point, but the finale settled it in favour of JP.

Not the pleasantest of grounds, a poor programme, no tannoy. And oh so coooooold!

Poor old Chelmo, losing again. I am gutted for Jeff King and also that cretin on their message board who was waving us goodbye a couple of weeks ago. Have a look at the table mate!

Well done lads for another great performance.

Yep excellent summery as ever. Did notice loads of improvements to there ground. The fence for one. Was it not a new stand? new terrace as well. Some brick work for standing on and lots of licks of paint. No tannoy though that's quite amazing. Shockingly cold especially down bottom end. Excellent win and i'm pleasedf for Pinns as he could not hit a barn door the other week.

About 60 gate fans drum and all which really got up their managers [****!!****]!! alk

Nice report Chris1, ironic that Charlie was terrible but still kept a clean sheet & not for the first time this season!

The results favoured us again tonight, so we go 3 points over Chelmsford & a further 5 goals ahead of them.

I tend to remember someone from them coming onto our forum a few weeks ago & saying see us run away from you (must have suddenly put the gearstick in reverse!).

Been home 10 minutes after getting in from a 3 hour meeting and two hour train journey and what do I find.............great away win and two of our rivals losing, and that cheat Robbie Savage breaking a leg......brilliant

Cheered up my mood no end and looking forward to weekend game.

When does the coach leave Saturday....Melvins time not Alex's

Absolutely superb win last night. Granted we didn't play to the best of our ability, but to go away from home, score three and keep a clean sheet can't be too bad! Certainly the correct result, despite an awful referee. And we scored two absolutely beautiful goals: Hockton's turn inside two defenders and neat finish and then Pinns' strike after great build-up play at the end. And let's not forget the definite penalty we were denied when Pinns was through on goal. Mitten looked shaky (no, abdullah, not because of the weather) at times but, on reflection, dealt with everything. All in all, a brilliant result - and we're back where we belong: top of the league!

Would that be Tony Cotton or Fran Cotton's clothing company.

I see you were not at the Emirates Staduim, East Thurrock last night Abs. Thought it would have been your kind of sophcisticated venue, especially coming from Bahrain.

No I could not travel last night - my favourite camel didn't like the cold and some of the others are still away doing pantomime across the country - (Aladdin, Market Harborough, Ali Baba and the 40 thieves, Mablethorpe, Snow white and the seven Camels, Troon etc. etc). My new carpet is currently awaiting its 20.000 miles service!

Anyway, the wives wanted me to stay in and spend some time with them . So it was a night of in tents action! However, I will be travelling to see Fiona Richmond in Hampton on Saturday!

Expensive place, Richmond! Stay in a Hotel for the weekend there and you end up paying Emir Rates!

I would like to thank all of you who posted updates of the game last night! I was able to read them as one of the Eunuchs projected them onto the canvas wall of the tent where I was otherwise engaged!

Abdullah the tired!
