Edgware leave it late, but we are still in the FA Vase!

Recommended Posts

We left it VERY late to get a result yesterday, the 89 min to be exact, but as everyone knows this Edgware team fight to the end of every game!

We should have taken an ealry lead in the first half when we had a couple of good chances, Whitewhawk were nothing special in a first half that was very even.

The second half saw the home team come a lot more into the match, but Edgware were awarded a penalty but Lee Gardner who has scored over 10 times from the spot this season blasted the ball wide much to his horror and the home fans delight.

The game got a bit nasty with tackels and off the ball incidents going unoticed by a poor referee and an over busy 4th official.

Whitehawk took the lead, a well taken goal, and it looked like our luck would run out, with us not really testing their keeper. With one of the last moves of the match, the ball fell to Adam Wallace who somehow scopped the ball over the line much to the delight of all of us (we had over 50 fans at the game)

Extra time saw both sides have efforts, but Whitehawk shaded it as they went in search of the win to save them the midweek trip to London, on reflection a draw is a fair result, and I am sure we can win the replay. We are in the draw for the 5th round for only the second time in the clubs history tomorrow, hopefully it will be a favorable draw.

Whitehawk's 'fans' were Brighton & HA fans who came in at HT for free and were all pissed up and drinking alcohol on the terraces which is illegal. They tried to bait me and my two mates (we were the only Edgware fans, no make that the only fans singing, and we DID make a lot of noise) by running over to us (about 5 of them) and clebrating in our faces, we did NOT rise to the bait, and when we scored we went CRAZY, to which we thought we could get a bit of trouble, but they seemed to be more interested in drinking then coming over to start on three fans.

Had their been more of us, no dobut it could/ would have 'gone off' but as I said we did NOT rise to the bait, after learning my lesson from the Hertford game earlier in the season.

No dobut if we get through and play away again we will face more of the same from the local inbreeds.

Gavin said "drinking alcohol on the terraces which is illegal." It's not actually, below Conference level!

Thanks HTFCONE, I see that no one else has commented on our game, why not? seeing as we our the sole representives of the SSML in the Vase, with a good chance now of making the 5th round!

I am not taking anything for granted, but with our home record, and Whitehawk having to travel to London in midweek, I think we can do it.

I have seen the new bookie odds and they seem to agree.

Who do I want in tomorrows draw? either one the clubs who are not faniced at home, or if we have to go away, Truro or Leamington, becuase there will be 1000+ crowds and if we do go out it will be to at least a team who can go all the way (though I am still not sure if Truro can go all the way) but I would fancy a nice weekend in Cornwall. Thanks, the weather was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. They only had one stand, with no seating, anywhere in the ground. The stand is the only one in the ground with the other three sides just open and no terraces.

Good view from the hill, not the top of it, on the far side, we walked there befoe KO, but decided to stand under cover. It was fine in the first half but in the second a group of around 30 Brighton fans who were bored and decied to come to the game and get pissed, and when they heard the three of us singing decied to sing abuse at us and celebrate their goal in our faces, could have got nasty, but we did not rise to the bait.

our last min goal shut them up and on Tue we will hopefully finnish the job smile

Well played Gav. Hopefully you can get through and avoid a nasty northern trip. Had one of them many years ago in the QF and that was in Birmingham let alone beyond there !

Still some up north teams left, Newcastle, Teeside, and another couple. If we have to play away (should we get through) then Bideford/Turo would be a nice weekend away, even thogh they would be VERY tough matches.

The further you get in the Vase, the more important it is to get a home draw. I'm sure if Potters Bar had been drawn at home to Kidsgrove in our qurter final a few years ago, instead of away, we would have been more likely to win. At this level, clubs aren't used to the extra distances involved and the different preparations can easily put you off your game.

Thanks smile hopefully we get a good draw and we win the replay tomorrow

Are you a Hendon fan Steve? looking at some of your posts I see that you mention about the Hendon programme and if anyone visiting fans would like to write a page in it.

IF you are, then good luck and I hope Hendon stay up. IF Edgware play Hendon in the future then I will write an article for the Hendon programme no problem.

Do you run the official website or one of the unofficial ones (the Wembley one is very good I downloaded a clip of Hendon winning the Amatuer cup smile ) I have a very soft spot for Hendon, having watched them many times over the years, and enjoyed some great times at Claremont Road, specially in the 86/87 season, when I saw the 'greens' reach two cup finals only to lose them both frown they had some good players then Colin Tate was up front and Ian Dowie was alongside him.

More recently I saw the team in 97/98 when they KO out Leyton O in the FA Cup, I was at both matches and the previous season when they went to Cardiff City in the FA cup.

Its ironic that Hendon are having one of their worst seasons ever when Edgware are having one of their best. Hopefully you can fight off relegation as you have done in the past (Hendon have NEVER been relegated right?) though it would be nice to play you in the league, I would rather wait for us to win promotion to the Ryman prem (wishfull thinking?) and play you then or in a cup game of course

Hendon were the favourites for relegation this season, their own manager said at the start of the campagin that if they stayed up they would do very well. It has more to do with lack of budget and finance I think.

I run the official site along with my brother.

Our form has improved somewhat over the past couple of months and if we can continue it I think we have a good chance of staying up. Crucially we're beating the teams who are in the bottom half of the table.

Pure speculation. KTFC playing on our pitch didn't do any damage to it until the 30th December - an occasion where the damage was down to the match referee decided to continue playing when it perhaps ought to have been abandoned. We can't blame KTFC for that.

If you look back, this is the third season on the spin that we've been embroiled in a relegation battle. All down to lack of finances. Indeed we should have been relegated last season but were saved at the 11th hour when Canvey took the drop into Division One North.

I believe that if you beat Hayes, and we beat Hillingdon in the Middx Senior Cup, we then meet at Claremont Road in the semi final.
