U18s Into The Serious Games

With out a league game played for months the U18s have worked their way to the serious end of the PLAAYA Cup. An away quarter final draw, and of course a greater chance of playing, Margate travel to Thamesmead tomorrow.Thamesmead from the Northern Div., are a good test as the two sides are very close and I do not want to tempt fate......... Having beaten Erith & Belvedere from this league in “a we can score one more than you” game we can only hope that Margate can slow the goals against column, goal scorers we have. To add an extra edge Margate might be playing Thamesmead (or Welling) again in the 4th rd of the Kent Youth Cup, this one at home.

The team has come a long way in a short time with a good mix of players and steady management but even in an optimistic moment I did not imagin that this side would do so well, considering they only came together in August. Some called them rejects, I call them a football team.

Hope to post details of a semi final place but what ever happens tomorrow the team have done themselves and MFC proud.

Good Luck Lads

15:30 and back home, not bad for an 1100 kick off and a 0800 start.

Sorry to report that the team lost 3-1. Margate were not quite song and against a far more physical team struggled to play their game. Playing with the wind Thamesmead used the long ball and kept Margate pinned back for long periods with only glimpses of the Margate that has done so well. Usual thing, a dodgy penalty gave TT the lead after 15 but Margate managed to keep themselves in the game. Then in added time TT beat Margates back row and pases the ball across the goal for a simple finish.

Second half and Margate were able to get their game going and there were moments when they out played TT but were unable to find the net. On 70 minutes TT took advantage of a defensive muddle and again scored a simple goal. All too late Margate were awarded a pen, put away by Elliot but despite their efforts it was all too late. 3-1 at full time is about right. Grumbles, the ref did neither team any favours, booking 2 Margate players for unsavoury remarks but not a TT player for the same, but can not say,"we waz robbed". Pluses, on another day Margates football would have been good enough to win and should TT beat Welling (my money is on Welling though) the lads can return the favour.

KY Cup at home next week, pitch allowing. Hope we can double the crowd by one other person turning, give me someone to talk to cos it seemed that TT supporters thought I came from another planet, no one spoke to me.

do you mean in the cup or in the club house.

I`ve not had a sniff of anything, but can not say what goes on in the changing room after the game though I have sometimes wondered. I`m lucky to get a 50p cup of tea at some venues MFC included.

I for one would take full advantage of any bar hospitality, no one has felt that sorry for me yet, just a sad old git who has nothing better to do on a Sunday.

Cheers
