Tonbridge 1 Billericay Town 2

A hard fought but worthy victory for the blues with two goals from Chris Whelpdale. The first was deflected, the second soared into the far top corner. Their goal was a mistake from Ronnie but it must be said he certainly didn't let it get on top of him and his performance for the rest of the match was on a par with the rest of the team.

With Chelmsford losing, Bromley getting a draw and Margate not playing due to their game being abandoned, we are now only four points off the top...Lets keep nibbling away at it...Slow but sure.

Just to leave it, the whole team played well today, a lot of effort and graft from everyone and although Whelps scored twice, my MOM goes to Joe Flack...quite probably the hardest work he has done.

In the second half the difference in quality really showed, and Tonbridge didn't look like getting back into it. Whelps second goal was class and he gets my MOTM. Danny & Matty were hard working and reliable as usual. Joe also ran his socks off. All in all a great afternoon with results elsewhere being fairly kind to us.

Tonbridge don't look a shadow of the team that visited New Lodge. How long will they be able to hang on to Maine for, playing like that?

A great afternoon out and our first victory of 2007, and well deserved in my opinion. Both the opening goals, within a couple of minutes of each, were largely down to luck. Ours took a wicked deflection and gave the keeper no chance. Theirs was an error by Ronnie, seeming to drop the ball straight into the net, possibly hampered by the sun. To his credit, he didnt let it get to him, and showed as much character and presence as in all his other performances.

Our second goal was a cracker from Whelpdale, a very well struck shot from the corner of the box. He gets my vote for MOM.

It wasnt the most spectacular performance, but it was hard working one, and the result was the key. I hate to single out players, but ive felt for the last few games that Burbridge just doesnt cut the mustard, and id like to see Holland or Poole start ahead of him (injuries etc permitting).

Sorry if thats our of place, i shouldnt criticise after a win, just saying what i think. Anyway, well done boys, ground gained at the top, and probably more importantly, none lost as the play offs go.

Roll on Saturday!

Well me and Nathan certainly enjoyed our day out, don't normally go behind the goal but he couldn't see from anywhere alongside the pitch - and I think he even started a chorus of the Stella song at one point (with a bit of help from "Uncle Gary") !

Great performance and result from the boys, but perhaps one of the "highlights" (pardon the pun!) was the home keeper's barnet - as my three year old loudly enquired within his earshot in a disbelieving voice "Daddy, yellow got new haircut?" LOL

It was a very professional performance from us. TBPH I think the scoreline flattered Tonbridge a bit as they didn't really have a kick in the whole game and they were very one dimensional going forward. I thought Main was poor for them today, continually offside and two skied half chances, but perhaps that's not giving due credit to our back four who as a unit again looked rock-like.

Our midfield won their battles against a five man Tonbridge midfield and Hodgie looked sharp when he came on. Flackie is working really hard up front, it's a shame he missed his big chance. Think MOTM has to be Whelps because his goals have won the game for us.

I'm also a fan of Tonbridge's ground, it seems to have quite a nice set up especially with the covering behind the goals. It's strange though that last time we beat them 3-0 they thought we were "lucky" and this time they thought we were "ordinary". Let's hope we can continue with our ordinary lucky streak as we have another big game next week against Horsham who were probably the best side I've seen so far this season over 90 minutes.

Well done all...Come on you blues!!!

I think you can describe the performance as another WHOLE team effort. From the keeper to the front it appears to me as though everyone knows their job. I mean by that the players are playing (and sticking to) their own boxes on the pitch which in my opinion is becoming the unit that has served past teams in this league well. There also looks to be a real team spirit about them, and for example when Ronnie dropped the ball it was more a case of it was "our" collective mistake, and similarly when Whelps netted it was a team goal. It was a big win on Saturday, and one to be applauded. Well done The Blues!!

As for Tonbridge, they seemed to have lost their early form and will know doubt be wanting to get back in the mix and if true what some Tonbridge fans were saying then John Main is going to want to impress Tranmere with some goals when they come snooping, but he did not cause any trouble on Saturday.

Big Bertha was defo worthwhile coming along too!

Maybe she should come along again?!?! smile
