I know there was talk earlier this season of closer links with Charlton but this getting serious.

Not only do their Ladies and reserve teams play at our ground we now have Charlie, Sodge, DeBolla, Ricketts, Long and Varney.

If Alex does as well as the other five I will be happy and having the Charlton chief execs son in the team can't hurt either.

Would I be right in assuming that the player on a month,s loan, is on a trial as such, and if he fits in, and is of the correct standard, then the loan will be extended, If it is not the case, then I really do not see the point of the loan. The team would have just got used to the way he plays, and him them, when he has to wanders into the sunset, never to be seen again. please enlighten me if you can

Not wishing to be called negative etc. etc. (but I will be anyway) but could someone explain the point in signing Alex Varney?

Yes, we do need another striker (with Ekoku leaving there is very little cover in that area) and I accept that I, amongst others, have been calling for the signing of a tall 'target' man for sometime. But why Varney?

I haven't seen him play so I could well be expressing concerns about nothing, but if he is that good why is it that he has not been playing for anyone since his release from Charlton (or has he?). Certainly from what has been in the press, Eribienne would appear to have been the better striker to have signed.

I obviously hope that I am proved wrong and my concerns unfounded.

Now that Weymouth have said they will honour their players' full-time contracts, this signing may ultimately have been impossible anyway.

None of us can know the 'point' of signing Varney until we have seen him play.
