Just wanted to put a serious side to this. shocked

Ever since 1991, when English Parnerships (EP) decided that they wanted a superduper development on the land around Gardiners Lane, and put a compulsory purchase order on the Basildon Stadium, Basildon United have been suffering from planning blight.

Firstly without proof of ten years tenure on the ground, promotion is impossible.

The club haven't been allowed to make improvements etc., as EP didn't want their valuation of the site to increase. So for 17 years, there has been no investment and it shows.

The club has just been marking time, and with an enforced lack of ambition, can only look enviously at the glory years and see sides such as Billericay, Grays and Canvey acheiving what they may have been able to do!

Now it seems EP can't get the funds to acheive a lot of their projects in Basildon. For instance, a road and bridge connection from the A127 to connect to the Gardiners Lane development is estimated at £35M. Whilst the 2012 Olympics overspend is sucking up any spare government money from developments in the South East, I can't see Basildon United moving (imho!)

There may be light at the end of the tunnel, let's hope so. grin

That would be an ideal solution.

However, I beleive that was mooted but I read somewhere that BDC wouldn't allow the club to build a new club house with better changing facilities and a bar. They just wanted to go them to use existing facilities.

Have the Bees taken legal action? [/quote

One of the local residents is taking EP to the European Court of Justice for 16 years of stress.

I have been told that there is a case for planning blight - which is on the statute books as a crime - and that there is a precedent case somewhere in London that was successful.

Trouble is that becomes very expensive in litigation costs!!

The order was an intention to purchase the ground when they were good and ready. At that moment, then Eversley was a possibility.

However (imho) what a stupid suggestion that was!! mad That's your area and we would want a ground somewhere in Basildon. A new ground near the Murrayfield Pavilion would be ideal! smile

The white building in Gloucester Park Blanchy, near the car park.

Eversley was always a non starter. I'm surprised the club went for that. It would have literally backed on to Bowers!!!

As an Eversley resident and in the interest of B&P FC I have to admit I did formally oppose the move.

I think it will ultimately prove to have done you/Bas Utd a favour.

I think fans would come if they were guaranteed a decent standard/level of football.

Also, apart from Southend Utd, WHU, Spurs etc, there is tremendous local non-league competition.

Grays Ath (Conf), Thurrock (Conf Sth) East Thurrock Utd & Billericay Town (Ryman Prem) and a plethora of Ryman Div 1 Nth sides (Not such a big difference IMO).

If Basildon Utd get a brand new ground, Bowers will find it difficult to compete for "new" fans, i.e. youngsters growing up in the area.

Not to mention that Grays are talking about a new ground near the Five Bells.
