When you are top of the pile

Nothing surprises me with the Brentwood episode as histriclly the big guns in the ESL have tended to be allowed to be well treated.

 

I remember going back to when Canvey were top of the ESL. The Canvey bench used to be surrounded by minder types and nothing was ever done by the officials. However if other clubs had one too many people on the bench, the officials acted straight away.

 

Not picking on Canvey as Romford also had their fair share of events going their way in 95/96 and one or two other clubs more recently have enjoyed good relationships possibly.

 

I would say the exception to this were Enfield Town who as a fans run club without any sugar daddy type backing, probably had to do things the hard way.
