BILLERICAY TOWN QUESTIONS

Clydefan

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm coming down from Glasgow on the first weekend in Feb to stay with a friend in London and thought I'd take in a game whilst I was down there. Having never even heard of Billericay before I thought, why not, lets head to their game against Walter and Hersham I think it is on the 3rd.

Are there any pubs that you would recommend - I'm hoping to get a mini pub crawl in before the game - and of course if you know of a good chip shop too then that would be much appreciated.

I'm a fan of a smaller team myself, Clyde FC, so strangely I can't wait to come down and see the match - having been following your recent results on your official website as well as this message board. (hopefully I can pick up a scarf whilst I'm down).

Good luck in the league this year!

There are a fair few pubs in Billericay (8 in the High Street). Many of the supporters start in The Crown (just up from the railway station) at 11 and then head off down to the club for a beer or three.

We do have a Witherspoon pub in Billericay called the Blue Boar which does reasonable food for a good price. If you get there before 12, you can have their Farmhouse Breakfast (double of everything) for £3.50. It's a tasty plate and worth having.

As for chips and yer good old footie fare, we have the Blues Cafe in the ground.

Look forward to seeing you.

I would agree that Chequers is a good pub - not sure about the rest of them in the high street.

I have been to all of them as I used to work in Ricay - thankfully I got out!

Should be a good game for you to watch - should be goals! :o)

If you fancy it, there is a bigger team just down the road - Chelmsford City, who are playing hendon at home that day! They have had well documented problems with loss of ground in the past and have in the last year, returned to their home town! They are also one of the favourites having invested in conference quality players who regularly play quality football and score a fair few goals!

As you can see colmeister they have bigger egos than us, but their manager appears to have BIGGER, by telling their fans he does not like them singing a song on his behalf! At his last club, he decided that some fans should not be allowed in and were banned as they said things he did not like too.

Anyway, we took 4 points from this BIGGER team, and that is all that needs to be said (presently) wink

Hope you enjoy your short stay with us and you never know we may just have a bit of a 500 miles rendition. smile

They are friendlier, as long as you don't wear a hat in their clubhouse wink

Are you not the moderator that deleted a thread because it included posts from BTFC supporters which admitted that they were the cause of the agression at the local game...

Pot kettle and black springs to mind!

Are you not the person who likes to comment about the BTFC finances and then when invited to the club to explain to all, don't show MMOH? By the way, Ryan and I are still waiting for our money...

Bub, was that the reason why sean blubbed all over your forum? Ahhhhh, I hope Mummy kissed it better...

Thanks for all the responses, was not expected.

Gazza - I think that some cheap nosh at the Blue Boar definitely sounds like a good start to the day, closely followed by heading to the Crown.

Keith - Looks like I'll then add the Chequers pub in the high street to my agenda - but I'm not too sure about the 500 miles welcome - its unofficially become the new national anthem of the tartan army - that being sung by a few hundred Londoners, whilst entertaining, just wouldn't sound right. (although one could argue that it didn't sound right sung by the Proclaimers either!).

And NMOH (whatever that means) - nice try on trying to convert me from my new found team after only 24 hours. Two things went against you however - a) it sounds like Chelmsford are to Billericay what Partick Thistle are to Clyde - a supposed bigger team that can't quite get the right result against them :-). Secondly, Gazza informs me that your team are the proud owner of an athletics track. Ouch! Thats a pretty big problem my friend and it looks like noone else can help. Were it not for the fact that George Peppard is dead and 'Faceman' is in the big brother house, I would have suggested that you hire the A Team to get it removed.

Give me the New Lodge any day of the week! Cant wait to sample the beer in the clubhouse too!

Unfortunately my mate cant make it to the game but I've somehow managed to talk my wife into coming along. Means I may have to watch how many pints I have, a tough ask of a Scotsman! :-(

Rick, deep fried mars bars lol.

Even though I'm Glaswegian I can honestly say I've never met anyone who has ever tried this, nor have I ever seen it on any chip shop menu. But yeah there was a lot of talk a few years back that this would be the next big thing.

But I'm afraid when it comes to a night out up here - its a straight choice between fish and chips, a kebab, or chips and cheese. The later would be my preferred option though I’m not sure if you’ll have it in London as a good friend of mine from Chesham had never even heard of this.

Looking forward to speaking to some of you guys in the clubhouse.

MMOH - comment was based on the fact that I've heard that your ground has a track and Billericay's doesn't. If I'm wrong, then apologies as I haven't been to either as yet. No rat here mate.

In fact, for a supposed Chelmsford fan, you seem to spend an awful lot of time posting messages on this board - could it be that you are the rat? Are you a closet Billericay fan?

Hmm, the truth is out there!
