Time to hit back (Attempt No.2)

For those who could not read my rant as the forum went down is was as follows.

Would Charlton appreciate me taking an advert in their local press offering FREE travel to a Margate game with a pick up point at the Valley ground.

The selling point being we have a team on the way not heading for relegation

When will they make their mind up if they are a Kent club or a London one. If a Kent one where is their team in the Kent Senior Cup (and on the same point where was Gillingham's)

Think it might be worth a punt.

Cost of advert maybe £100. Cost of coach (25 only) £250.

For £350 think of the publicity we could get if used correctly. The local TV might take it up too.

Making costing enquiries over the next week or so and a possible something for me to do for one of our last few games at home, especially if Charlton are relegated at that point.

Why not use the forums to remind people of Charlton's pending relegation and Margate's possible promotion? If we were able to galvanise other non-league fans around the county, we might just stop the "addiction to the addicts".

I live not too far from the mighty Kassam Stadium, home of Oxford United. Do you see me going there every week - do you heck! Am a true supporter and would never change my allegiance even if they are only 2 leagues above us!!

Think Charlton have a bloody cheek considering they do actually have a very loyal fan base.

I go an see Man U every so often as I'm a One United member - just cos I don't live in Central Salford doesnt stop me watching them when I can - but Non-League football is just the [****!!****]!

I certainly watch more Margate games in a season than Man U

When you finally persuade someone that watching non-league is fun, you take them to a game, and I will guarantee, absolutely GUARANTEE, it will be the worst lot of toilet you have seen all season.

It's happened to me loads of times, most notably home to Dover in the conf at Xmas (0-1, dire).

It is the most efficient working of sod's law you will ever see.

Its exactly those kind of fans the club needs to support them regularly. But those kind of fans are not being attracted in large numbers.
People are put off by the standard of football, the standard of facilities and the prices.
It's much easier to get people interested in a big name team or a local derby than say a home match with Heybridge Swifts etc....The Ground is still an issue. The prices are too high for the standard of football.

Its a vicious circle as usual - if we don't pay the admission and get Ramsgate-type attendances then we can't attract Danny Hocktons to play for us thus we shall forever stay a non-league nobody.

I actually (like others but never again at Ashford (Middx)!) buy raffle/50/50 tickets whether home or away as I believe in (in my small way!) helping out other non-league clubs.

My subscription to the GG lottery is on-going (yes, I even won once!!) but what more can I do from this distance?!

I had a post which unfortunately appeared a bit late and appeared to be having a go at you Tony. You were not the intended recipient so I have deleted the text. Hope it did not upset as I know how keen you are in supporting Margate 'From A Distance'. Oops wrong thread again!

I try not to be controversial on here - there are others who do that well enough!!

All I'm trying to say, I think, is about being loyal. People who are swayed by free/cheap coach rides to go see a struggling Premiership club are probably not the kind of supporters we want anyway! I've followed the Blues since 79 and I know just how fickle our support is even though the die-hards will always remain and hats off to them (I know some of you are on here!!)

Even my support has come and gone over the years - partly due to my job and locality - but I always watch/listen when I can!

AB, anyone having a go at me has either mis-read my post or read some clap-trap I posted before then deleting it! Am not easily offended either way - cripes, I'm in the RAF for goodness sake - we get enough flak (sic!) as it is!!!
