Maybe this game was a bit of men and boys with Ashford Town having a number of first team regulars out there tonight. At 1 - 0 our lads did well and could have nicked it with conversion of a couple of break away opportunities. Town had a relatively early offside call which appeared a little wide of the mark. Town didn’t really settle until on 25 minutes Luke Marshall shot wide. For the next 10 minutes or so the lads found some belief and Robert Dalley had the Ashford Town at sixes and sevens as he shot the ball across with the hope someone would connect. Ashford Town then missed an open goal chance. Finally the remaining 10 minutes was all Ashford who eventually were rewarded with an easy tap in goal.

 

Second half Town came out with more self-belief. Griffith off and Hammatt on. Hammatt soon made his presence felt shooting wide. Byfield saved well to concede a corner. At the other end Towns blistering pace had the Ashford back 4 under the cosh with each counterattack. Ashford cleared off their own line on one of these attacks.

 

Ashford go on to the next round.

 

I was a little surprised that Ashford as a team in a higher league had no emergency lighting and only 150 seats.

 

The laugh of the night was reserved for a Shetland pony that decided to watch the match without paying. A luckless steward spent some time chasing this pony up and down the terraces to the amusement of the fans.

There was a second pony waiting outside the ground to see if the first one got in for nothing. When the first was ejected, they both went elsewhere!
