Hill leaves the Wessex.

"I had a choice. I could put the club in administration or, together with the board, management, sponsors and supporters we could work hard to keep the club going and ask everyone to get behind us. We have chosen the latter and today I am making a direct appeal that people understand the reasons for these changes and give us the support we need in the difficult weeks and months ahead."

One minute he says they aren't going bust - yet the next minute he talks of putting the club into administration as an option. Doesnt quite fit, does it?

Smith is a bit critical of the way things are going down at Weymouth. I like the bit in bold.

"As for me, if they do not let me go then they will have to pay me a decent amount of money to get me off the wage bill because I am obviously contracted now until 2009. They should not have given me that contract."

The Weymouth players are still in the dark about the terms in which they can leave and Smith reckons it is time the club acted in a "professional manner".

It would be nice if the decent thing was done and this was all explained to us by the chairman. We can speak to Gary Calder but he is just relaying a message at the end of the day."

As for filling the squad with local talent, Smith said: "No disrespect but if they do get in local lads who have not played at Conference level before they are going to get spanked every game. That is why there seems more to all this than meets the eye. I mean, why did they not wait and see out the season? We were doing well and in with a chance of promotion, and there is a lot more funding and sponsorship in League Two."

And I wouldn't completely rule it out. If someone, say a sponsor, wanted to broadcast it's name all over League Two then giving us the money to get in Ben Smith could be the way to go about it.

While I don't wish any club to get into financial difficulties, it is hard to have a lot of sympathy for the chairman of Weymouth, who put all his eggs in one basket (relying upon a prospective successful planning application) when he didn't even have the eggs in the first place!

Giving key personnel at the club new 3 year contracts only a few weeks ago when there must have been some knowledge of the financial situation is just bonkers. Breaking a fixed term contract has very serious consequences. The longer thre is left of the contract to run the more expensive it is to pay it off.
