Sod that - drop Che, drop Liam.....stick Tostao up front and let him skin the defenders for a path onto goal.....Giles up front with him for a powerful presence - talk about 2 extremes!

With Bentley crossing from the right.....

A radical approach - nonsense to many - but that is my opinion.....

.....but the goal-rate from our forwards is abysmal. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Therefore the debate starts (I hope!)

I can't quite see Tostao as an out and out forward, but could he do worse than our existing forwards in hitting the back of the net? Yeovil's website does describe Giles as a striker but he is already doing a good job in his present position. I have forgotten when one of our strikers actually scored. Che is still our top scorer but I'm sure he hasn't scored since about October.

A few home truth's.

1. Chris Giles hasn't played as a striker at all this season.

2. Although we can play him where we like, Yeovil have lent him to us as a centre half, which is perhaps where they think his future lies.

3. We may want him on loan for a further month.

Quite right Dave - Giles may be one of our most dangerous players in front of goal at the moment, but he is also looking like our best defender. We can't play him everywhere! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I agree that Liam and Che are not doing the business, but then we have just paid £2,000 for a striker who has scored one the only two goals from a forward in open play since Booth scored against Chester on 13th October 2002.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you [color:"red"] Kevin Budge [/color]

Oooooooh - is he still with the club? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Just kidding! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It's hard to keep up with who has come and who has gone lately,

even more so while you are working out tax returns!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Liam ran his legs off today, but sadly no goals, Che missed two very good chances, must be time to give Budgie a chance.

With Mark Bentley, sorting out the right side, Rob Owen playing so well in mid-field, the defence looking good. What we need is more goals. Perhaps Tuesday's game will give Andy a chance to try and sort that problem.

I though the warming up after the first half at least meant are players were ready to start and although we were under the cosh for a while they did not score, on the 45, 46 or 47 minute. Must be progress

I think you're right about Liam - gave his all again today and, as has been mentioned elsewhere, has only recently come back from a long layoff. As regards Che, it is now something like 3 months without a goal and he doesn't look confident - earlier in the season he would have buried the one-on-one chance he had today. Can't really see any reason why KB shouldn't get a chance.

Leave it to the Manager. He knows what hes doing. The defence looked great yesterday. Pennock, Giles and at times Hatch were all very good in the air. There have been times when that has been the problem. Great battling performance yesterday. Long may it continue.

Dont shoot me down but i think that we were fortunate to win yesterday. The influence on Pennock in the team yesterday was immense and if he wasnt in that side yesterday i think we'd have let in 3 goals. Andy must be congratulated for getting a player of that calibre down to Stonebridge Road. Have read all the postings and agree with whats been written. We were under the cosh for long periods of the game yesterday and i dont think it was helped by Che's and Liams inability to hold onto the ball. They gave the ball away far too often and also by Matt Lee who i thought was poor yesterday.

I agree with Dave, we need to give Budgie a run in the team at Che's expense..Liam causes defences problems even if he's not scoring and conference defenders seem to be able to handle Che quite easily. Whenever i see conference sides they all seem to have at least 1 quality striker. We dont have that. It frustrates me to see Liam charging around getting the ball making a brilliant run and then taking a wild swipe with his big right leg from outside the box. The guy has huge potential but is still very raw. Did anyone else think that Stevenages no.9 Richards was outstanding yesterday. If we had someone like that or even close we'd have buried them.

U dont appreciate people at the time, but id love to see Simon Parker back at the club. Sort of player we could do with.

A good win yesterday the brings us back nearer the pack. Southport have been on a bad run of late and we can definately get a result of some sort up there. Up the Fleet.

Stevenage were unlucky to leave with nothing but then again how lucky were Margate on tuesday?

They always say that luck evens itself out over the season and I reckon we are owed a big dollop of it.

The defence looks more secure with Pennock there and seeing Duku warm up before the match hopefully we can keep some clean sheets soon, however if we want to climb the table we have to score goals. I don't care who plays up front or if it is forwards, midfield, or defenders who score as long as we start winning.

Yes Matt their No 9 looked a good player but he didn't score either!

I had overlooked Kevin Budge's goal against Yeovil in my previous message. A shame really as it was a good goal. Andy seems to have relegated him to the bench which I can't quite understand. Surely he wasn't bought as yet another player " for the future?"

And Wilkins was playing up front when he scored at Margate <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I used the phrase in a programme notes kind of way. A device sometimes used to cover up for the management having been too enthusiastic about a player and his expected immediate impact which for one reason or another doesn't work out as planned. As for Craig playing as a forward (his choice of position) at Margate, I'm sure that you are right. It was something of a rare run out for him in that role- I had forgotten that it had ever happened! It will be a great shame for the club if he leaves. He must be the most versatile player we have.

Agree with most postings, i also felt Stevenage were going to nick it but as someone said earlier luck has to change sometime, time to give Budge a run up front, Che should have scored Saturday and needs to get his confidence back, also Liam works at 100% but again he needs to turn his chances into goals, with Burton back and maybe Duku in the next couple of games i would put Chris Giles up front, Wilkins may also be a short term answer, but i think he is a better defender than striker, Giles & Budge up front.
