Because your club is at its lowest ebb whilst ours is on the up?

The rest of your post was full of stereotypical northern whining.

You were winning, the heavens opened, the pitch couldn't take it after all the rain recently - MATCH ABANDONED - bad luck but move on, get over it.

What good would it have been to work on the pitch WHEN IT WAS STILL RAINING???

I cant see what the problem is.

I wasnt at Stonebridge Road yesterday , however , having followed fleet all over the country this season and extensively in previous years , I can assure you that pitch is one of the best at this level.

With regards facilities at the ground. They are not the best , the ground looks dated and drab. However , we are moving forward and looking to a new ground in a rapidly expanding area, We dont need to spend unnecessary money on putting up a roof so the small numbers of away fans dont get wet. The pitch meets conference standards as laid down by the conference. And I believe is League standard as well though stand corrected in that statement.

As a supporter of the Fleet and footbal in general , I will be shocked if our club had any say in the game being abandoned and if such a thing has happened , we deserve our punishment.

The referee took the descion to abandon the game. Live with it , thats non league football and sometimes ex league teams tend to get the believe that they have the final say on things.

Halifax , like any other team are a conference level team playing in a conferecen rules governed league.

If I could point people in the direction of Simon Inglis' excellent "Football Grounds of England, Wales and Scotland," his comments on the old Shay make interesting reading!

I'm not having a go at the excellent job Halifax have made of (nearly) making an excellent stadium from a cows behind of a club. But people who have lived in glasshouses really shouldnt throw stones!

So what you're saying Andy, is compare Stonebridge now with how the Shay used to be 5 or 6 years ago! How's that any defence?

That's like us saying that the Shay is the same as Oxfords Kassam stadium becuse the Manor ground was a dump.

I cant actually see what point your making here.

I will try to simplify it for you.

Your ground was a dump. In fact it was such a dump that it was a laughing stock. I vividly remember seeing a picture of ice skating taking place on the pitch in 1963 and the comment even then was something on lines of "Nice to see that the ground is useful for something!" Similarly in the 1970's through to the 90's it was a joke place to visit for players and supporters alike.

Since then, your club have done a magnificent job in making a nice modern ground that is the envy of a lot of non-league and some league clubs. (It would be nice if it were finished but I'm not being pedantic here!)

Your right, our ground is outdated and, to be honest falling apart. BUT it has a history and charm that make it a HOME for us and we like it, much as your supporters no doubt loved the old Shay?

As I said before, if you have a complaint about anything thats fine by me, its a free forum and I respect anyone who travels miles to see a club, but you really cant say too much about a ground that has a pitch which is the the envy of the majority of clubs at our level, and (more importantly) great drainage. If it reached the point where the pitch was waterlogged then sticking a fork in it was not going to help!

Lastly, the 15 minute delay, as was the restart for the second half was, I have it on good authority a decision made by the ref who knew that there were supporters from your club who had travelled a great distance to get there (that means you!) AND he was aware that your club would have extra expense in an abandonment so he "Gave it a go."
