Lets have a laugh at Weymouth...

Recommended Posts

They haven't released the players just put them all on the transfer list so effectively they are still available to play for Weymouth until they find other clubs.

With the transfer deadline due I expect most of them will be desperate to make a move before then.

Gary Calder has been put in charge of searching for new players. Knowing the type of players he tends to favour and the contacts he has, expect alot of old Basils, Hx players going over there, none of whom will be remotely anywhere near Conference class.

The reason that table on confguide is wrong is because they have omitted our win against Cambridge, maybe they already know something we don't wink

As for muff, there are a lot of loud mouthed arrogant [****!!****] over there who, when we told then this was going to happen, were just abusive and the obvious Harrison 'yes men'... to them I say 'told you so', but to the quiet old man who never goes near internet message boards or the fan that doesn't get involved in internet and club politics but likes watching the club I echo AFF's first post...

I'm smirking a bit... wink

I expect those people were not watching the club pre the days of Ridley, Claridge, Harrison etc.

I feel sorry for the genuine supporters who watch and support their team in a positive manner but as was seen on here and on Confguide at times last season, some Weymouth supporters seemed to look down their noses at other clubs in their league and generally give it the 'big I am'

Those are the ones that I don't feel sympathy for.

I remember someone telling me when Canvey had similar problems last year that in this sort of situation, you find out who the true fans are.

Wonder how many from Weymouth will stick around for the fight.

Most of our ex players proved that by going to Chelmsford.

I wasn't after anyones sympathy when we nearly folded 5/6 years ago. I was just annoyed with the people/person that allowed it to get to that situation.

I can't bring myself to lose any sleep over Weymouth. We would have won the league last year if it wasn't for their unsustainable spending.

It wasn't exactly as if the recent events were unexpected. A much publicised book was written about Weymouth and their financial problems and you can be sure that if the book was full of inaccuracies that the libel writs would have been flying. Rather then worry about their own problems they seemed more concerned about taking the p**s out of other clubs for their attendances.

Saw interviews with Harrison on local news last night. He never saw it coming, just spent his money expecting a big result by way of cup game or transfer to bale him out which is a bit of a contradiction in itself. Did not look as arrogant as when last seen. He did his best, he said. Funny that he did not see the comments on his own forum suggesting the expenditure was not sustainable. When he certainly heard the good advice offered by City fans at the Wessex in April

he did not give his expenditure a second thought. He saw and heard it coming. Sound businessman or egomaniac?

I'm fast approaching the position where I can't be bothered any more, but I saw one post on The Muff forum to the effect that Martyn Harrison's company[ies] own 83% of the freehold interest in the Wessex Stadium. If so, it's no surprise that he hasn't simply 'done a runner'.

Perhaps expenditure was sustainable for as long as a huge payback was fast approaching in the form of a super property deal with Asda, but when that was rejected by the Planning Authorities, 'investment' in a Non League football club wasn't quite as attractive to the discerning business-man.

I shouldn't really comment on this kind of stuff as the situation down there is very confusing to a casual observer. However, I do get the feeling that there's a fair bit more yet to surface concerning our friends from Dorset.

Edit: I've just seen yours, Laz. EFMTFTV has posted a couple of messages of goodwill on their forum, actually, as "Gertcha".

Well I believe that it's fairly common knowledge that a significant re-development of the Wessex stadium was proposed involving a new Asda or Sainsburys or someone. I seem to recalll that it was agreed in principle before Ian Ridley became involved and he 'fine-tuned' the terms of the deal with the supermarket.

It was all conditional upon the grant of a satisfactory planning Permission, of course, and I seem to remember reading somewhere, within the last 12 months, that the current scheme has been rejected by the Secretary of State or someone.

That's not to say that something else might find favour with the Authorities, of course. I was chatting to a Muff fan last season and, apparently, the Wessex Stadium is on a major route that is planned to give access to the 2012 sailing venue for the London [sic] 2012 Olympic thingy, and they seemed confident that Sebastian Coe and the powers that be will want to see the stadium moved [a bit] and re-developed.

Sigh. I really can't be bothered with this stuff. It reminds me of Amateur night.
