Recommended Posts

Do any of you remember a band in the 'britpop' era called St Ettienne (spelling may be wrong) the lead singer was Sarah Cracknell, well anyway, Bob Stanley was in the the band and he now writes for Time Out Magazine, and he 'champions' non league football, and he is going to write an article about two clubs in particular for next weeks magazine, I will let you guess the two clubs................

Clue...one is in North West London the other is also North West, but comes under Middlesex, any gueses? http://aoluksvc.musicsearch.aol.com/artist.adp?artist_id=127938

This is from Time Out... They are going to use one of the photos that I put on my blog site and use it with the article smile

Hi Gavin

The reason we have chosen that image is that our main sports piece is on small clubs mentioning Edgware Town FC and Hendon in particular. Our sports editor felt that image conveyed small league football teams but it is a positive piece and Bob Stanley the writer often champions local London teams."

No, its the quaity mag that you have to pay for and is a listings mag, given you details on all things from food to sport and where to go etc etc.

They always have a sport page, that lists the forthcoming games from the Prem down the conference in and around London, for eg Watford is included but not Luton.

I am not sure how much it costs now, I think just under £2.

I will try and get the article scanned, when it comes out, or maybe someone else can help with that as I dont own a scanner.

Here is a link to the Time Out website and also a Link to an article that Bob stanley wrote about non league football.

Yeah we aint posh over ere - all live in caravans dont we. Have our own passports too!

Don't forget Gav IF you get that promotion you'll need to get the innoculations before you come to our game oh and a passport!!

At least we have got a good supporter base (you said on another post 100 was a good crowd PMSL)

Hornchurch will make mincemeat of you (as will Canvey). We average 400+ for home games and take more than 100+ away (ask Potters Bar)

Yeah but you and Hornchurch only get good crowds because pikeys have nothing else to do with themselves, I heard you have lucky heather sellers outside your ground instead of programme sellers.

Must have been hard to take being relegated THREE times in one season, welcome back to the real world.

Crowds alone dont win games, just look at Newcastle for example.

Oh and if you think that a crowd of 100 is funny, then what the [****!!****] are you doing on here anyway, unless you are getting information on the level that Canvey Island Pikeys are going to be playing at soon.

Essex woman, if they had brains they would be even more dangerous then they are now!

Gavin - you aint got a clue about our club. We were NOT relegated we opted out of the Conference for the financial reasons. We actually requested to be put into the ESL but the FA first put us in Conf South and then Ryman Prem. We could afford Conf South and couldnt play in Ryman Prem as our prev backer went to Chelmsford and it would have been a conflict of interst at that time because the paperwork for the signing over of the club had not been finalised. By the time all this had been done it was to late for the ESL so we ended up in Ryman 1 North. Our expections were not to battle for promotion (or the playoffs) but to get money in the kitty for a better squad next season.
We needed an ave crowd of about 250 to keep the club afloat and so far this season every single gate has been much higher!!

The Pikey term came because our PREVIOUS backer Jeff King owner the two large caravan sites on the Island. We now prefer to be known as the scum of Essex lol. Pikey no longer appliers for us.
Hornchurch - to my knowledge never known as Pikeys (lets hope Unc Urchin dont see your post)

As for us 'Canvey Birds' being brains of britain well yep some of us are. Yeah I cant spell and the ol English aint that good but I am a qualified accountant and also a Technician in the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation - two professional qualifications that gives me the letters AAT and IRRV after my name lol (what do you have Gavin?)

We've already played at your level and it wouldnt bother us that much if we were there again - we would support the team through thick and thin - we are the LOYAL supporters!!!

Love coming on here to join in the banter and see if I can get a bite!!!
