cometh the hour...

Uncle Urchin

Recommended Posts

cometh the heroes and there were 16 of 'em there tonight ....a cold and misty january evening and a very partisan crowd twice its normal size for the visit of the famous table topping urchins...

now I have seen the churlish comments on their web site and the reality is that altho' they were the livlier team on the night (having craftily cancelled saturday to give them the fitness edge) they were the only team playing route one football and the amount of free kicks they conned the ref into was horrendous (he was outrageously hapless by the way)...at one time I counted 5 of their playwers writhing around in 'agony'...

sudbury had little imagination to be honest and were hopelessly short of ideas in spite of their fresher legs....they looked like a mid table team with just that 'one off' edge that goes with playing cup finals....and tonight was a cup final for sudbury...make no mistake about that...

we never looked like losing a game we just didn't want to lose and they never looked like winning a game that they had to win.....the league season is all but over for sudbury and their website whingers but the magnificent urchins go marching on.....

and if I had any doubt at all about our players desire to wear those shirts and that badge before tonight (which I didn't) I can hand on heart say that everyone of them gave everything tonight on their exhausted legs and in their battle weary hearts...I was proud to be a little part of that performance...

well done to everyone urchin and also thanx to the sudbury fans and officials who enjoyed the banter with us and tolerated in good humour my spoof reports to sidders as outrageous as they deliberately were... yay yay

(curry house 9/10..... grin)

What a day!

4 trips on the District Line (5 hours) and a Funeral.

3.5 hours work.

A long journey to Sudbury.

Wrong turning on the way back ending up at Stanstead. (Thanks for driving, you've earned a few beers.)

Home at 12 to see 3 quick wickets in the test.

Up again at 5.30 and into work by 7.15.

Yes, the Sudbury officials were clearly enjoying Unc's match commentary to Sid - and several of them thanked him after the match for the entertainment - even though one or two added that they thought they were at a different match.

But despite Sudbury's territorial possession, they only managed a couple of direct shots on target and Urchins had at least three chances to have made the match safe. Annoying however that the Sudbury goal - and it was a really good one - should come from a decision made by a linesman which was blatantly incorrect. Equally annoying was that the Sudbury player who hammered the ball away in the first half went unpenalised whilst Kris Lee was carded for a much lesser incident.

And considering the awful ground conditions, this must rank as one of the best away performances of the season.
