Mr Ridley

I missed the fans forum as you will have noticed.

Mr R was behind the goal at Woking and I saw him in the bar chatting beforehand.

I expect I've got the wrong end of the stick. I can't see something like this not being covered on the website if it is true.

If this is true, it would indeed be very disappointing. I have talked to the guy in the past and he has great ideas about moving the club forward. He is very knowledgable and also a great communicator with the supporters, listening to their views. I just hope somebody has got the wrong end of the stick here.

That's an excellent summary of the man's qualities all of which seemed to be missing from the board before he arrived.

(That's not intended as a criticism of the board as they should be credited with bringing in someone like him.)

This is now on the Official web-site:

"Following his decision to resign as a director of St Albans City, Ian Ridley has issued the following statement.

‘I am a little disappointed and frustrated that I have not been as involved in helping to run the Club as much as I would have liked, but I have enjoyed my year on the Board. I thank John Gibson for the opportunity, wish the Saints well and will continue to watch whenever I get the chance."

That is disappointing news.

I am really surprised Ian’s decided to step down. Mr Ridley did a superb job transforming the fortunes of Weymouth FC by instilling a professional attitude throughout the Wessex outfit. Even with Ian’s dedication and passion for his adopted side, it was never going to be easy applying the same principles and procedures at Clarence Park.

It’s a great shame he’s decided to resign as a director. You only have to read Floodlit Dreams to realise that IR is driven by his love of the game and his ambition to take his local club up to the next level.

I was at the Fans Forum and I don't recall Ian Ridley joining the debates concerning catering or the clubhouse arrangements at t'Park, actually.

That's not to say that he doesn't have strong feelings for the matter, of course. I didn't contribute on the night, either.

No, more significant than that, methinks.

Seems he didn't try to replicate eveything he did at Weymouth then. His to do list when he arrived there looked something like:
1. Sack manager
2. Serve chips

...or was it the other way around.

You know an awful lot about it, saslufc. I don't recall either of those things on any agenda, although some mischief-makers from the Muff did suggest that Steve Claridge would be appointed manager of the club within 10 minutes or so.

Going back to Laz's point about the origin of the press release on the Official web-site, I have had a team of crack consultants on the job for 24 hours and they have come up with a theory that does hold some water, which I will share with you guys.

Now, concentrate hard and try to follow the logic of this. The release was put onto the site by David Tavener [because it says so] and the words in quotes are from Ian Ridley himself [because it says so].

Darn smart these Consultant wallahs. Worth every penny.
