Arsenal of the Conference??

Recommended Posts

They obviously are impressed on the R&D forum.

Just lifted this:-

"Sodje was excellent for them and young Coleman looked like one for the future. The lad alongside Hawkins was also very strong at the back and we never really tested the keeper apart from Jacko's shot and their defender's slice which he saved well. With players to come back, I think Daish will get them into the play-offs."

Praise indeed.

I can see why they wanted LD as first choice and had to settle for a poor 2nd best in Westley.

He certainly appears to have learned from last year's mistakes.

On the other hand perhaps he just got rid of the players who weren't up to playing in the conference regardless of whether some fans thought that their status was such that they should not have been let go.

Interestingly, of all the players that we shed at the end of last season, not one is playing at our level this season, and only two, including Mark Rawle, are playing only one step further down.

It is probably more to do with the fact that to continue to prefer to be a part-time professional is becoming more and more difficult at Conference level. In fact it would be virtually impossible for a Jimmy Jackson type to play for another club within the Conference because of geographical location. After all LD did try to keep some of last year's squad if they would agree to become full time. It wasn't therefore simply a case of brilliant decision making on his part at all. It was often taken out of his hands by the circumstances of the players in question.
