This subject has come up a few times in conversations in recent weeks so I thought I would put it on here.

What are your top 5 Margate games, with reasons.

Mine in no particular order.....

BURTON 2 MARGATE 0

Having already won the League the previous Tuesday this trip to the runners-up was the perfect end to the season. Not only did they beat us but completely outplayed us on the day but it did not matter. Singing '2-0 to the runners-up' must have wound them up a treat.

LEYTON ORIENT 1 MARGATE 1

The first time I saw Margate travel to a League Club and had Sodje finished after his mazy run late on the day could have been even better.

MARGATE 2 DOVER 1 (Kent Senior Cup Final 1994)

Dover were, at the time, 2 leagues higher than us, with Chris Kinnear at the helm and Iain O'Connell in the side. Everything about the day at Priestfield was superb from the abuse of Maurice Munden to the way the Dover fans filtered rapidly out of the Rainham End once we got our winner.

MARGATE 1 FULHAM 2

Live on Sky. Kevin Keegan. Ray Wilkins. Al Fayed. Say no more!

BRACKLEY 0 MARGATE 4

The game clinched promotion to the Southern Premier from under the noses of Folkestone. Conga's around the ground and a first promotion in 20 odd years.

Have to say I've seen all 5 games (the KSC final only a few weeks after I started as a 'Gate supporter). I think you'd have to add winning the Southern League Cup at Redditch and taking over their bar at the end of the game.

Also 3-0 at Worcester City on our return to Southern League Premier divison and 1-0 at Boston as we started the Conference (sadly didn't see those two, but great results).

Remember from the Burton game, the 'sit down if you've won the League' chant and the post match reaction from CK reporting that the bench were amazed that all the Margate support 'disappeared' for a few minutes - great fun!!
