Number 2 son gave me their second album for Christmas and it is of very high quality indeed. Not least, the quotes from a couple of of the music publications reproduced on the cover are worthy of repetition here:

 

"They mix a snarling blues-rock and a sweet country-soul that'll have you stomping your cowboy boots along while weeping into your bourbon sour" [NME]

 

and,

 

"Their lo-fi rough hewn folk reels with a deliciously absinthian aftertaste and a bluntly poetic charm that marks these gallants of a different feather" [Mojo]

 

and,

 

"A corker ..... highly recommended". [Drowned in Sound].

 

I have to say that I rather like "absinthian aftertaste". It beats 'pulsating' any day. For some reason, I read that and thought immediately of JKiF.

And another New Year "Celebrity" observation from me:

 

There's a woman called Pauline someoneorother who has been on one of the soaps for 120 years or so and she died/was killed/left on Christmas Day, apparently - that's the character who dies/was killed/left, not the actress, and she, that's the actress, was on that poof's quiz programme thing on New Years Eve.

 

Anyway. I always thought that she was white. She was made up to look white on the soap thing, for sure.

 

Well, she's a bro.

 

Either that or she has the reverse of that skin disease what Michael Jackson has got.

 

Perhaps that's the reason she left Emmerdale/Neighbours/Coronation Street or whatever it is, on Christmas Day. The scriptwriters would have struggled to find a storyline that fitted one of the leading ladies turning black.
