Ramsgate Chav - Will Graham

Having spent the first half of this season watching the reserves and u18s it is clear that Margate have a few usful/promising players. The problem seems that there is no long term reserve/older youth set-up for these players to go to and they are often lost, both to the club and the potential of becoming a good player, before they have a chance. As we know football is about instant success and going elsewhere to find players is easier (not sure if I can say cheaper) than running a good reserve/up and coming scheme.(In amongst the dad`s who fancy it and give of their time there are a few who know their onions) We`ve all seen young players go through a youth clubs set-up playing with promise but lack that bit extra, be it height, weight or tactical awarness which can often come over a years good training and care. Instead they end up playing Sunday league, nothing wrong with that, but the chance to develope into a LOCAL player who Margate or Ramsgate (sorry) might be interested in is lost. Sadly it comes down to two things money and commitment, not sure if you can have one without the other. Nor am I sure that locally we have either.

What I do know is that Margate FC are in a good position from the first team down and if it`s proper locals that are needed then they are there, they just need a chance to develope. Last thought, surely a local player puting on the shirt might be happy with that rather than OTT cash rewards and perhaps training might become local too.

Wishing All A Very Happy New Year and good luck to everyone who puts on the blue shirt for Margate.

Have to say that the Ramsgate youth poicy seems good. Scouts out hunting down the kids who show potential, asking them and parents to come to the club and meet with them. The only thing that spoiled it for me was the sly digs at the Margate set up.

It will be weird for me as I am a gate fan and my son will be progressing with the Rams ?!?!?!?!

What Ramsgate need to realise that this is not the Kent league and therefore it is not a local league. They are now in a league where they need to buy players from different areas of the country. Ramsgate are the only team in league where the whole team is a bunch of locals. Also Will Graham saying that the likes of Jackson and Hockton don't appreciate the local derby is a load of rubbish because speaking to Jimmy a few weeks ago he was saying that he can't wait for the game and the players love it when Ramsgate lose. Will Graham has got sour grapes as their cheating tactics did not get them the win they wanted to get.

dead right Alex

Ramsgate freely admit that they have to have local players as they have very little money, and what they have achieved is amazing.

But Margate are doing what they always do, pick the best of the best, and in the past it has worked and no doubt it will work again.

Look at the top 4 in the league, not many local players in any of they teams

I see what you mean Gringo. Maybe they are under orders to alter a few things in readiness for the inquisition by the Ryman bigwigs eh? Or at the least try & play down the numerous complaints made against them.Still,a look at our forum will be just as bad if not worse for them I would have thought & they cant mess with that can they?

Or maybe they are just updating the site! l.o.l.

Ramsgate fans forum still offline. Maybe one of several reasons

1. Ramsgate fear forum getting out of hand to moderate.

2. It's only fan that uses it (Rob Butler) has gone on holiday

3. In enough trouble with the league and worried something has/will be said that will be used against them

4. Failed to take enough money on Tuesday through lack of facilities to be able to pay the bloke running it for them

5. Worried Margate fans will overrun it with sensible comments

6. Bound to be a number 6 but cant think of it at the moment

7. Like everything else at Southwood they cant give a toss

I think it is a real shame that it ended with acrimony, but fairly inevitable when you see the calibre of some of the 'support'. On the other hand I know a couple of Ramsgate fans who are decent and likeable, enjoy the banter and enjoy their football.

It's the likes of those that lose out.

And at the end of the day, Ramsgate deserve their place in the league, but really do need to sort their facilities out.
