Bury are a league club so that is hardly a good example.
Why not use Altrincham instead? They play in the same league as us and are within a 40 mile radius of as many league clubs as Bury.

Calling those that chose not to go to matches at Stonebridge Road, 'lazy bastards' is both wrong and totally out of order!

I can't make many away games or for that matter every home game, sometimes due to other commitments (ie. work and/or family, for health reasons, or sometimes I just chose not to go, yet I still classify myself as a 'Fleet supporter and have proud to have been so since 1962. But that does not make me one of the 'lazy bastards', far from it.

To label those that do not call themselves 'Fleet supporters as 'lazy bastards' just because they may support another club, chose to play local football, chose to play another sport, may have no interest in football at all, cannot afford the entrance fee, or even chose to go shopping at Bluewater or wherever is an unfair insult and should be retracted as soon as is possible. It does neither the club, in who's name the insult has been made, or the individuals that made and continued the insult, any credit what so ever. Can you imagine just what the press would make of it, if it got into the public domain outside of this forum?

Sadly the reality is that at the end of the day it doesn't matter whether the club are successful, or not, to a great many people. That said the club are still doing at best very little to attract those that 'could' be swayed and persuaded to attend the occassional match. (see the threads on admission costs, availability of burger bars, match posters etc etc.)

Perhaps when the club themselves are seen to be more proactive in attracting new supporters, the club will get the support it needs and deserves.

Very little I'd imagine. If the Press were in the habit of breaking hot news stories from this forum, I'm sure we'd have heard about it by now.

Including the 'Quecerasaha calls drummer an idiot' exclusive.

If anyone had called those who choose not to go to matches at Stonebridge road lazy bastards I would agree with you.

Looks as though I will miss the game tomorrow due to having to work.

Annoyed as no-one even offered to swap it.

I explained that it was to get the Fleet game and just got blank looks.

Even from the 'hardcore' Chelsea fan who, when I asked how long he had been a fan, replied with 'since 2004'. Sometimes I despair!

Whilst I disagree with hurling insults amongst ourselves, I do think the problems OFF the pitch could and should be better managed by the board.
We now have a first class full time team, backed up by a manager most fans are fully behind.
Where we are lacking is the forward thinking, dynamic and inspirational leadership from the board.

We are a full time business, and the attitude of the board should reflect this - at times it still seems like a gentlemens social club, or an expensive hobby for those lucky enough to able to indulge.
Many aspects of the club, such as the club shop, the web site are brilliantly run by hard working volunteers, but we need to turn it into a professional operation to get the best return.
To progress, we need a full time, Press, Publicity and Marketing office - running the shop, web site, football in the community, etc, etc- we own Fleet Leisure - let us capitalise on that. God knows , there are many Football league chairman who would die for such a facilty.
Publicity stands are needed at Bluewater and Hempstead Valley (which has been absolutely packed recently).
Take heed of the fans, they are the barometer of public needs and wants, listen about the catering, act on segregation issues, where 50 away fans can have a 1500 ? capacity terrace to themselves, when COMMON SENSE says give them the corner - allowing Fleet fans behind both goals.
This really isn't rocket science - but without incisive action the club is losing credibilty by playing at a ground befitting the 1950's, and a board who appear stuck in a time warp.
If teams like Margate, Dartford and Maidstone can ressurrect with new grounds (or definite plans) so quickly, why is it taking us so bloody long to sort out who is even going to arrange the job, let alone build the place.
Most of these subjects have been raised countless times on here, many brilliant ideas and suggestions are made.
Uptake of such ideas and suggestions by the club - probably less than 5%.
The new ground was mooted about 3 years ago. Whilst Mr Kilkullen is working hard behind the scenes to progress the project, it is us , the fans who are, as usual kept in the dark over progress.
Like all other Fleet fans, I only want what is best for the club.
Slow and steady progress does have it's place in football - but is better when you are a small, part time club.
In order to progress now and keep up with the big boys we have to change the mindset and become big boys ourselves.
Failure to do so will inevitably lead to a further dwindling of crowds, smaller playing budgets and the selling of our best assets (our best players) simply to stay in the Conference.

I admit I gave up reading this after a while but as a suggestion, could the free/vastly reduced child entry start at the beginning of next season? Whilst for this season a few special offers for children, adults and families could be set up.

Do your matches get mentioned on the local radio much? You could invite them along to report on a live match.

Just a quick point to reiterate the lack of profesionalism - our website give no mention of segregation - not Dave H's fault - we are all entitled to the holiday off, so why should he give up his spare time, but what of the travelling Rushden fans - do they know or have any way of finding out they are likely to to standing on a bleak, exposed terrace for the whole game - with severe gales and torrential rain possible.

At least let us give them the opportunity to bring warm, waterproof clothing and umbrellas.

I seem to recall a fiasco a year or 2 ago where Scarboro? fans were forced to endure a blizzard and being refused shelter from the storm, which led to letters from us to them apologising for our actions.

If we cannot be seen to give a bit of shelter from weather, at least let us do the courtesy of warning them. Met office forecast :-

You make some good points, Gary, but we've been over the above issue several times. Why would the Club reveal specific details when nothing has been signed and sealed? Not to mention the fact that the news that talks with Bannertown had ended was very prominent both on the website and in local papers.
