Town 2-0 Arlesey Town

Another bizarre display to be honest, when Arlesey went down to 10 men we looked all over the place, that said some good football played in parts, but too many gilt edged chances missed.

With them down to 10 men the game was crying out for Kojo to stretch them even further with his pace.

Personally I thought their number 6 was a real good solid defender, fast & timeing of tackles was superb.

Special mention for their keeper too who enjoyed much banter & gave as good as he got, well done fella.

Hope to see Andy Jones start a game soon, Dave Allen solid as ever & Simon Tickner faultless again definatly my player of the season so far.

We should have won this by a country mile. I lost count of the number of one-on-ones we missed after the first three. Not sure why Ricci Crace did not start but we looked sharper once he was on. Bryan Hammatt ran himself into the ground but he looked tired to me.

I thought it was a golden opportunity for Lee Smith to play in his preferred role of front man but he wasn't given the chance. He's a fantastic clubman and I still believe he can more than hold his own at this level - but I do wonder when his patience is going to run out. It will be a big shame if he decides to leave.

That's 5 wins on the bounce now but the next match against Enfield is going to be a tough one. They have picked themselves up recently and we will yet again have to turn in a much better performance if we are to get anything out of that match. Let's hope for the best.

Anybody know if the new striker Braithwaite is fit yet??

John, Campbell, Bastian, Tickner, Allen, Magona, Velandia, Hall (Capt), Nyman, Hammatt, Negus, Crace, Hunt, Smith, Jones, Ofori.

Well before many of the fans had even entered the ground and golden goal completed on 16 seconds Steve Velandia had crossed for Matty Negus to score into the town record book. Not spectacular but a good solid finish.

Chasing a ball Bryan Hammatt got to the by-line to head a ball back on for the linesman to rule that it had gone out. Steve Magona back header in for Dean Nyman to hit the back of the net for it to be disallowed. Steve Magona went threw a purple patch where he appeared determined to run off all the Mince Pies.

At the other end Arlesey skimmed a free-kick over the bar. Steve Magona shot just wide. Matty Negus in a one on one with substitute keeper saved it. Dean Nyman was causing all sorts of problems when an attacking 50:50 ball finally earned Gordon Barr a straight red for a vicious back elbow that appeared a bit excessive. David Allen was in quality mode tackling back time after time. Bryan Hammatt in 1 on 1 with the keeper who saved it with his feet. Another Dean Nyman shot saved.

The Town fans had excellent banter with Sean in the Arlesey goal. A lovely guy but maybe the banter with the linesman was too close to the truth?

Second half Bryan Hammatt shot over the bar. Steve Velandia flicked a shot over. Dean Nyman had a shot saved. Ricci Crace on for Dean Nyman. Arlesey were having the best spell of the game missing an almost open goal and then cleared off the line. Steve Velandia shot wide. Ricci Crace made a lovely ball for Steve Velandia to shoot over as Town player queued up to nail this match. Paul Campbell headed off the line. A Matty Negus shot was saved. Steve Velandia and Bryan Hammatt off and Andy Jones and Dave Hunt on. Finally town made it safe after a Andy Jones short pass to Paul Campbell and on to Ricci Crace to tap in. 2 – 0. Good Night Arlesey, never an easy team for us to beat.

When we played it on the deck some of our football was excellent. When their player was sent off we just failed to take control and let them settle into a new pattern. We did have a number of one on one chances. However, rather than just critize our players you have to congratulate their keeper on closing things down quickly. He played very well and I understand that he was drafter in at the last minute as their two keepers were unavailable. Apparently he is the goalkeeping coach at Kettering and has retired! All in all, a good win, a clean sheet and here's to revenge at Ware on Saturday. We are very comfortably in a play off place and the top five seem to be pulling away. Hornchurch should win the title but there is no one else who should scare us, particularly with the improvement we have been making. I know its a lng way off but we have to set our sights on promotion. COME ON YOU TOWNERS!!!
