I read with interest the comments about the Lease arrangements for the Brimsdown ground.

Last week I was at Braintree Council for a planning meeting and on the Agenda was Braintree Town FC, who had an application to improve the ground, training are a and general facilities.

Our old mate Lee Harding ( Braintree Chairman ) gave a presentation to Members of the Council's Planning Committee.

Councillors fell over themselves to praise the Club, the way they had brought pride to the Town and how they helped the local schools etc etc.

Planning was granted by a unanimous decision and a vote of thanks to the football club.

Oh, what a different approach to the "local team" compared to the attitude to "local sport" shown by Enfield Council.

I'm not sure they are a million miles away, in truth. In approving the Braintree application, I imagine there's some housing included, as well as improvements to the football club's property/premises.

At Brimsdown, the Downs are surrendered, for guess what....housing, and some of the surrender value gets invested in the facilities.

I wonder if the alleged Brimsdown brewery debt is anywhere in the mix? Perhaps a new lease gives a better chance of it being repaid, or securing some borrowing?
