MATCH UPATE: Chelmsford v Slough

Got to feel sorry for the new keeper - not only having your first match against Chelmsford and then conceeding 5 goals. Hopefully his confidence isn't dented too much.

On the bright side - at least all the Windsor players are now gone.

Seems Dell HAS gone to Basingstoke, not Oxford City - Drake's the only one who has gone there.

Oxford City won 2-0 today - Drake keeps a clean sheet and Mark Avery scores! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Feel sorry for Wilko and Westy - our club gets more of a joke every week. The 40 Slough supporters who turned up today made some noise, had a laugh, but...

Apparently seven of the players today for Chelmsford played in the Conference last season. How can we compete?

Let's become a fans run club asap rather than this slow death...

i agree too in a way, but surely the fans run club w ill also end up with a budget of 0 even if it was to drop down the divisions? what would be the chances of any of our current players staying if that happened...

Pretty good actually as i'm sure all of them currently playing are playing for nothing! The only ones now that would probably strongly interest other clubs are McCleary, Woody and Davies.

I think part of the Trusts plan, although dont quote me on this, is to try and gain as much interest in the forms of sponsorship from local businesses to help finance the cost of running a team.

Otherwise its would be pretty hard for the trust to finance a team.

Well i think its a fair point to ask - how will the trust raise cash to run the club day to day, who will do it? Will someone be employed to raise sponsorship? what sort of budget will we have?

I think Hendon is now fans run and has a strict budget, Wimbledon is apparently run by a committee of 30 who decide on what players to sign and if they can afford them etc.

These are the things i think we need to thrash out, to save the club from oblivion, because from where i'm looking all the club has left is its fans.

what i mean was how does the trust go about taking over the club...

1) would the trust have to purchase the club from its current owners

2) i assume the supporters trust board would then take over the day to day running of the club?

and all the other questions raised by BR.

The Trust would only be able to take over the club from the current owners (whoever they are!) as long as it did not have to take on the alleged debts.

The trust would also be liable for any contracts the club had - does Roy have a contract of employment? - if he does he is an employee and would then have the legal rights of any employee - redundancey etc.

The transfer of ownership of the "club" is highly complex & it may be simpler to start afresh, but this would have to be at the bottom of the pyramid, rather than our current position!

There are far more questions than answers at this stage, and with only a limited amount of information about the clubs situation and ownership a lot still needs to be established to find a way forward - at least we have made it to christmas!

Sorry to drag this up a bit late, but just spotted it. We're not fans run yet, but almost certainly will be in the near future. In the meantime, the budget is still set by the current owners, but is at the level that it would have been this season had the Trust had control in the summer. We've done a lot of work on budgeting, and I'd be willing to go over anything that people want in an e-mail for you. When it comes to the time we most likely take over running the club, yes we will be run to a very strict budget.
