There was an Italian bloke, late 40s, dark hair, rotund waistline, used to "coach" the Southend United kids in the School Of Excellence.

Enrico, is that you? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Only Brentwood and Concord Rangers would probably cope in the Ridgeons League.Your Hullbridge i feel would be in the Middle of Division 1.

To get excited about a friendly win at Diss Town is something i havent experianced before from a Manager, I cant believe you got excited about it to be fair.

Where are your Hullbridge Team this season, and for someone who was Managing Great Wakering Rovers RESERVES last year,i suggest you go and prove yourself in the ESL and win something worthwhile as you say "The proof in is the Silverware"

However as "Admin" has said ,it's good to have an opinion however clouded it is.

Good Luck Enrico Lets Hope we see Your Team Picking up the ESL Winners Title!!!!!!!

Guys would just like to add that as said before the ESL has been the victim of its own success the proof is there for all to see,I dont feel there is quite the gap between both leagues that you say. And all the FA are trying to do is make things right geographically

Don't forget that we "saffron Walden" we're in this league for ten years up till 3 years ago and we feel that div 1 "step 6" of ridgeons is far better than that league!

If i remember the essex senior league only gave fixtures out a month in advance, some clubs you went to had 0 supporters and the facilites at most grounds we're like pub football grounds!

The football was no existent at times as the winning team was often the one with the biggest thugs in the center of the park!

Why on earth would any club want to make the step back to that c**p!

you're missing the point mate...you and your fellas are slagging off another league at step 5 and their teams.as a manager of one of them i feel insulted you have no rights whatsoever to say those things regarding clubs in the esl.i could say things about some clubs in your league but i keep them to myself out of respect.i'm sure on this forum you get league officials, chairmen and managers posting on it and if any of them made those shoddy comments about the esl, then they should be ashamed of themselves and apologize for.if that won't happen,it means that you're a bunch of big time charlies that deserves only to be put back in their places

you only have to look at the NATIONAL competition, the F.A.Vase to see just how outstanding the ridgeons league is,for four years running there was a finalist from this league, last year a semi finalist and i believe 5 yes 5 form the last 32 were from the ridgeons league, its widely recognised that this league is the BEST at this level,we have had success in the fa cup with raeching the first round and lowestoft themselves only going out on penalties after extra time after a replay to burnham and then this season to a goal 4 minutes into injury time to unbeaten bromley. There are as many as 18 clubs in this league who could acquit themselves well at a higher level and we proved this winning 3-1 at canvey island. The quality of football at this level is very very good, the attendances are also very good,do any of your teams expect to get around 300 or so for an average boxing day derby? here expect over 100 and could asily be 15oo! i can say without fear that this is a very good league and the best at its level nationally, can you?

Face facts the north Essex clubs are much happier in the Ridgeons League as geographically they are part of East Anglia, not the Thames Estuary, and so more fans travel and the clubs are better supported. It also means visiting clubs bring down more travelling fans making more revenue for their home games.

Putting the quality of football aside and on a purely geographical basis wouldn't you be better to merge with the Kent League and form a regional South East two tier league? I can't see why Kent back the plan and the ESL doesn't. As the FA don't want County leagues at Step 5 I don't think you'll ever see backing to force all Essex sides to play in the ESL when it is far more productive for them to play in the ECL. Face it my friend, the days of the ESL are numbered. Regional Leagues are the way forward whether you like it or not. The best thing you can do is look at how this could improve the current situation for the ESL clubs and stop fighting against the inevitable.

the way you measure success is, like at youth level, how many players you get through to the first team.over 20 years i lost the count of how many clubs have progressed to the higher echelons of the non-league pyramid from the esl.with the exception of braintree, and more recently sudbury and histon,i cannot recall any other teams coming out of your so called "strong" league.

some of your top teams are happy to be the big fish in a little pond and are scared stiff to take the plunge and test themselves at higher level, knowing deep inside that when they come up against the cream of ESSEX football, they will get an hiding.be content and happy to play in a league at step 5 full of unambitious clubs...suit yourselves chaps

Teams go into the esl and see it as an quick escape route out of there!

Suffer for a season but we will soon be out of there!

eg the new enfield town "if they could of got their ground sorted quick they would of been out like a flash" Afc Hornchurch " regroup win the league in a season then get out" Everyone one knows its an free ride to step 4!

What does it say about the rest of the competition Mmmmm

Why don't the rest of the clubs stop them Mmmmm

Co's your not good enough and if you we're would your grounds be?

ha ha..you make me laugh maldon town came out of esl because they were finishing 15th or 16th every season and the same saffron waldon or tiptree.the escape route was the old jewson league(infact finished 3rd and got promoted only to come back licking their wounds after a quick ride in the rym premier)i wouldn't be surprised seeing them coming back to your little pond.why as a chairman of an esl side, should be happy to stay at level 5 and not wanting to progress to step 4?i'm an ambitious chairman and i want my club to progress and play at a better standard of football, step 4 at least ,possibly step 3.what's wrong with the grounds?have you seen southend manor recently,or concord, burnham, barkingside, brentwood, barking, tilbury, even hullbridge !nothing wrong with their grounds!how it comes, gwrovers have moved up,challenging much bigger clubs in the ryman and your so called big guys has stayed in your league?i'll tell you why...because you're not good enough to substain a club at step 4,let alone step 3!i wouldn't be disappointed if i was you...happy with what we have got..so they say now i'm gonna used the same shoddy words you used for the esl.....GO BACK TO YOUR TRACTORS LEAGUE!ha ha,who's gonna win this year?new holland or the massey-ferguson!

they have got games in hand like mighty sudbury... the attendance was 9 at basildon utd and i was one of them! the reason is...in your league as a supporter once you have finished to look after the animals in the farm and milk the cows, there isn't a lot else to do saturday afternoon(forget mid-week!)and football is the only distraction...that's why bigger attendances basvegas is well known for it's attractions and is also the town where mighty latin lover and gigolo` hunty lives!
