kentish town match report

[color:"red"] [/coThe press report from Saturday's game for ease of reference, this is also on the report thread:

Saturday 16 December 2006

Spartan South Midlands League Division 1

Kentish Town 3 Amersham Town 1

Town were made to battle all the way against a dogged Amersham side that would not lie down until the closing stages and who gave Town a number of nail biting moments throughout an action packed afternoon on a tricky Claremont Road surface.

Town started positively enough and Lee Scott missed two good scoring opportunities early on particularly when he should have put the ball past the keeper but instead saw his effort go agonisingly wide of the far post. Safraz Pivano then proceeded to miss an equally good chance after doing the difficult part when taking the ball down in front of goal like a seasoned professional, indeed Town's recent acquisition from Premier Division Broxbourne Borough was on electric form hitting a post shortly afterwards.

The hard working visitors managed to keep Town out until the 25 minute mark when a long clearance out of defence found Chris Zanre in space on the left, Zanre was able to reach the ball before a defender and, despite an awkward first touch, managed to steer it past an advancing keeper for his second goal of the campaign.

Town possibly expected the floodgates to open however the opposite was actually the case with Amersham enjoying much of the possession and they hit a post shortly before the interval following a melee in the penalty area with keeper James Noonan beaten.

As was the case in the previous two home games Town went in at the break just one goal to the good however Manager Frank Zanre and Coach Clement Temile were not overly concerned knowing that Town ran out convincing victors in the end on those occasions.

Daniel Young missed an early opportunity following the break when putting the ball over the bar from close range following a good cross into the box. Amersham were still giving as good as they were getting and the unsung midfielder Shaka Cole was in superb form covering every blade of grass when thwarting attacking moves. Young then unleashed a shot from some 25 yards out in a left sided position which produded an excellent save from Samuel Beasant, son of former Wimbledon 1988 Cup final hero Dave Beasant.

On the 70 minute mark Town finally put some much needed daylight between themselves and the visitors when Pivano picked the ball up on the left before embarking on a delightful solo run and planting the ball home from just inside the penalty area.

Town introduced Aaron Seriuex for Zanre on 75 minutes and were now very much in the ascendency although Tom McMullen, who was back in the side following a two game ban, was forced to make an excellent clearance off the line to prevent a certain goal. Aaron Hutchins then went upfield for a corner and was unlucky when the ball dropped onto his head only to lack sufficient power and the keeper was able to gather it comfortably.

Town hammered the final nail into Amersham's coffin when Lee Scott got on the score sheet yet again on 87 minutes with a solo effort taking the ball around Beasant when in a one on one situation and slotting it confidentally home.

There was still time left however for the visitors to get a consolation goal right on the final whistle when a cross deceived Noonan, who might have done better, and Feiden was on hand to head the ball across the line from close range.

Town now go second in the table, just one point behind leaders Cockfosters, and travel to in form Hoddesdon Town on Saturday, kick off 3.00, in their final game before Christmas.

Blues06 is right, I think it was obvious that Saf hadn't written it. Here are a few pics from Saturday:

Their keeper was Dave Beasant's son and very much a chip off the old block keeping the score down to 3-1:

That's Chris Zanre being held by the keeper, he's the Manager's son who some claim is only in the team for that reason, needless to say he scored (again)!

I've only just picked myself up from rolling around the floor in laughter since your post three hours ago, Chris is a key member of our squad and it makes no difference at all that he's the Manager's son, indeed he gets more stick from Frank than anyone else and has often been on the bench this season or taken off at half time. It's not like at Haringey where Andy Bates and Sam Hall both played their sons, now if you were talking about them then I would agree with you wholeheartedly but Chris is a class act.
