Those TOTP albums were not sung by the artits that were listed, its common knowlege that Elton John before he became famous sung other artists hits on the TOTP albums. They were the 'now' of the 70's except they were not recrord by the orinal bands/singers.

They did put out a CD of the Elton John tracks from TOTP albums, something like 'Reg's greatest hits' I lent mine out and didn't get it back!

Must have a look on e-bay now I've thought about it.

Paula - You have gone down in my estimation. Mine was Virginia Plain by Roxy Music, I notice that Horace has been conspicuous by his absence on this thread, I expect his favourite will be a Glenn Miller or Vera Lynn track.

right hands up....

who remembers 'embassy records'.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm afraid I do Uncle! Rip off covers of Top Ten hits, red label, sung by someone nobody had ever heard of.

they were mostly 'stage' names on the labels horace and you would be surprised how many future stars sang those covers as a way of getting a foot on the ladder to pop stardom....embassy was owned of course by WH Woolworths and cost 4 bob instead of the usual 6 bob for a vinyl single in those days..(late 50's early 60's....)

'covers' were unheard of way back then and it didn't really take off and disappeared around 64'...some of those old singles are collectors items now..

a very merry xmas and a prosperous new year to everyone on this site.. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
