What are the odds of the game at the Manor being called off tonight?

I see there is another Manor fan on the forum now, I think that makes them equal or second to Hertford in the number of posters on here from one club.

No problems for tonight Gav, unless of course we get another mini tornado between now and kick off time. See you tonight.

Yeah see you all tonight, whats your ground like? not been there for years?

..

Ok, found this...I think this is where I will be tonight

I have only been to Ruislip once and that was in 1978/79 !!!!! and we won 4-1 I think. I seem to remember wooden boards all around the floor of the ground for some reason

Pyramid passion site says "Definately one for the more reactionary connoisseurs amongst us"

Not bad at all, one of the better grounds in the SSML, along with Tring, Harefield, Hertford, and ours, from what I have seen so far. The rest are shall we say 'picturesque'

Yeah, thats the main stand, although its now been repainted and is white inside. The fence between the stand and the gun turret has also been replaced with concrete fencing since I took this shot:

..

It looks nicer now with white paint, the black makes the stand look too dark

The fence between the stand and the gun turret

The square looking concrete monstrosity at the top end, is a WW2 RAF anti aircraft gun turret. Its protected so we can't do anything about it, and theres a machine gun post behind it as well. The land was owned until fairly recently by the MOD and was designated as a potential mass grave site in the event of an invasion and war.

Is this behind the goal or the main stand (sorry cant tell from the pics)

Wow, thats pretty amazing, and one of the wonderfull quirks of non league grounds.

So did the MOD use the ground during the war, or was the ground built on the site used by the MOD?

I will have to inspect those gun turrets futher tonight, shame it will be dark as it would have been good to check out and take a pic ..ANNORAK ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

It's behind one of the corners, the MOD owned the ground and leased it to us for £ 52 a year at one time, sadly it's no longer needed by them and they sold it off a few years ago.

We were given permission to knock it down but as it was built to withstand bomb blasts that would have been easier said than done. It's not safe now but was at one time used as the tea bar!

The wood around the ground in the 70's was from the London Underground when they changed the escalators from wood to metal, they are long gone!
