tragedy: two kids drown in a lake..

Recommended Posts

i don't know if you have heard on the news but 2 juventus youth team players have died trying to retrieve a football from a little lake nearby their training ground.one of their coaches(schincaglia,a former serie a player) interviewed after the tragedy said that he didn't feel responsible for their death because he can't be with the lads 24 hours and his job is only to coach... i would like to know your opinions about it.

my thoughts are with their parents seeing your son dying like that and at such young age must be heart-breaking

I agree with what the coach is saying enrico, and what esu is saying...

however this is a very tragic event, and thats not the right way to look at this situation...

how old were the youth team players?

if they were too young, and there should have been an adult there, then the coach has messed up.. imo...

I remember the Charlton incident, can't believe it was over 6 years ago...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/charlton_athletic/873928.stm

I think it's over simplistic to blame the coach, quite often they are given more boys/girls than the recommended ratio (No more than 16:1 max I believe). I'm not a coach but my son is and he often has more kids than he can manage on his own. Ideally he should refuse to coach more than he's supposed to, but what can he do, turn kids away?

I suppose it's different at Academies and Centres of Excellence, where there are limited places anyway. It's a hell of a responsibility when all you want to do is coach football!!!

True! And it may be that the coach was negligent in this case. I'm just saying that to say the coach is in charge so therefore it's always their fault/responsibilty is too simplistic.

What was the fall-out at Charlton? Did any of the coaches get the blame?

Shocking!!!

Were you a coach there Bboy? My lad was there for a season at Sparrows Lane in 97/98 (U10s). They had a different coach every week!!!

The man in charge then was Terry Westley, with Steve Watts as Head of Youth Development.

A real shame.

It seems the two Juve lads were retrieving footballs from a freezing cold lake.

I'm guessing they were caught out by the severity of the cold and their muscles spasmed.

They were both 17 so not exactly kids.

I was involved with something similar at Charlton. We went away with the army for pre season and one of our players drowned in lake during an exercise. This coach is to blame he has full care when these children are with him !!!

bloody right!they are 16-17 years old and under the legal age that is 18 in italy.what the hell they were doing there and why it took an hour and half to find out about it?usually these lads come from all over italy and stay in an hostel run by a family that looks after them.if there was no training, they shouldn't have been allowed there!it makes you really feeling bad seeing young lives die like that
