SLOUGH BEAT HITCHIN TONIGHT 4-0,BOTH CLUBS FIELDED DECENT TEAMS,ALL GOALS CAME IN SECOND HALF,SAMMY GOT 2,BOOT SCORED A PENALTY AND I THINK RYAN WILLIAMS GOT THE OTHER. BYRON AND SAMMY PLAYED REALLY WELL,AN ENCOURAGING PERFORMNCE AHEAD OF SATURDAYS MATCH WITH OXFORD.PITCH AINT IN A GOOD WAY AFTER TONIGHTS MATCH.

Yep, a very good performance braved by about 35 people! Once Boot had put Slough in front a few minutes into the second half it was a great game. He should have had a five minute hat-trick before getting the penalty to make it two. Sammy took his goal well and it was Williams who got the other.

 

Dom had an assured game in goal and it was great to see Ricky Browne back and playing well. Adrian Brown also came on in the second half. Sammy went off with ten minutes to go to leave us with ten men although I'm convinced he just wanted to get out of the rain!

It was definitely Gilkes who got the last one - Williams cleverly dummied the ball from Gilkes's call so he could slot the ball home from close range from Bubb's cross.

 

I think Winston simply had cramp. At least that's what I hope it was. Certainly didn't appear to be hobbling too badly as he walked off down the tunnel.

Sorry Ian, but Tony Boot did not put Slough in front, Sammy stole it off his toe and tapped in. Good job too because Boot didn't look like he could get a goal if the goalposts were twice as wide. It was good to see Sammy get some goals, albeit against a team who just about turned up. If that was a reasonable strength Hitchin side then Mr Browne is a quality manager!

 

Anyway, a good performance for morale. Can't understand why Gilkes played the whole 90 when he can barely make the hour in a normal game, and if Sammy can't play on Saturday we'll need him to push on and support Boot now that we've no strikers again. I understand that we need to trim the squad but to leave us with no cover up front seems pretty daft, not that I'd be happy with Dodgy in the side.

 

Assuming the match will be playable on Saturday we should be recording our first win of 2003. Oxford were terrible at their ground and but for the Simon Patterson experiment we would have grabbed the points.

Our Pitch will need some heavy work on it after last nights match...starting to look a bit of a plowed field !

 

It always rains at kick off at Slough !!!!

 

And did it rain last night ! over 2 inches fell inside 2 hours last night in the Thamas Valley....

 

I think 6 fell on Slough's pitch !!!!

 

Help needed saturday morning .......to get game on I thinks...

So Sammy got the first one and there seems to be a difference of opinion on the other between Williams and Gilkes! I stand corrected. Actually I sit corrected as I migrated to the stand for the second half which is probably why I couldn't see what happened!

 

From there though I did get to listen to Steve Browne's motivational encouragement which basically consisted of berating Sammy for his effort and then, after he'd wrestled the ball away from a Hitchin player, shouting "SEE WHAT F*****G HAPPENS WHEN YOU WORK HARD". Oh for such management skills!
