dont always agree with that sid because fans and managers/players see thing differently.

Fair enough Smallsy old pal. The likes of Man Utd can do it cos they have the strength in depth that we don't have in NL football. If you have two Cup games close together with the more important being the second one then maybe have a few of your key players on the bench for the first game and only use them if you need them. But to field a full team of reserves (as they said they did on the Swifts website) against us so they could save their first team for today was not the best tactic.

Only my opinion though Smallsy, and far more on here know much more about the technicalities of football than I do - and I suspect you are one of them.

it was a gamble worth taking .. but it just
didn't work for them ..i think if it was us in
that situation we would have done the same.

I don't think we would you know. On 12th Sept we played Canvey in the League Cup and four days later had an FA Cup game away to Redbridge. We fielded basically full strength teams for both games and won them both.

but we did when we played welling .. as on the
Tuesday we had Heybridge in the westview cup and
we fielded a weakend eleven

Well when you look at our lineup for the Heybridge game we had Brightly, Fletcher, Styles, Purdie, McFarlane, Collins, Tiffin, Tomlinson, Gasper, Simon Parker and Wareham - with Lee Bostock and Glozier on the bench. The only absentee was Mark Janney. I would not call this a "reserve" team.

By the way, I am not really trying to win an arguement here because you may well be right in what you say. I am just trying to get a debate going. A debate which I am quite happy to lose.

Hello Cantos. Thanks for that info. If anyone wants cheering up here is today's match report from Time FM's website ....

Local Derby’s always potentially promise to a competitive and exciting event. That proved the case at the Cricklefield Stadium where Ilford were hosts to top of the table Hornchurch.

The game started with a high tempo and both teams attacking intentions were apparent, with only a minute on the clock Hornchurch had rattled Ilfords crossbar. It was end to end stuff however after only 8 minutes Hornchurch were looking the most dangerous when Kris Lee’s strike was tipped over the bar by Ilford keeper Sam Long.

2 minutes later the deadlock was broken, Kris Lee was on hand to pounce on a rebound after Simon Parker’s shot was pushed out by the keeper, falling to Kris Lee’s feet who then blasted the ball in to the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Hornchurch’s drive and enthusiasm was higher than ever as they continued to rip into a vulnerable looking Ilford side. On 17 minutes the lead was doubled by Kris Lee thanks to hard work from Simon Parker who's through ball found Lee who’s composed finish found the bottom left hand corner.

Ilford’s work rate was not in question, however, their distribution and creativity left a lot to be desired for. Hornchurch never looked in trouble of conceding and always look in control of their counterparts. On 29 minutes Simon Parker made it 3-0, good link up play from Mark Janney and Kris Lee set up Parker, who’s rifled shot hit the underside of the bar before ending up in the back of the net.

Things went from bad to worse for Ilford on 35 minutes when Simon Parker doubled his tally for the afternoon, his side footed shot from the edge of the box found the bottom left hand corner to make it 4-0, although from Ilford point of view it was a soft goal to concede.

Just Before the break Ilford had a rare free-kick just outside the Hornchurch box, Anthony Church fired it towards goal on the way it took a deflection off of Gary Cross and squirmed into the Hornchurch goal past a helpless Dale Brightly.

The second half started scrappy, Ilford looked very much the same and Hornchurch’s football was as fluent as the previous half. However, on 24 minutes into the half Hornchurch Sub Dave Collins superbly placed shot from the edge of the box found the top left hand corner to make it 5-1 to the visitors.

It could’ve been more two minutes later when the energetic Amos Foweya clipped the bar with his pop shot. He got his reward just 8 minutes later, his great run on the left took him into the box where he cut in onto his right foot and blasted into the top corner to wrap up the scoring at 6-1.

Confidence has never been higher at Bridge Avenue, as they sit top of the pile with a game in hand.
