jl
A disappointing result for us today and a bit of a puzzling performance really. We didn't really start like a team that had won its last 4 games and we conceded in the first half from a free kick after Blewitt almost cut one of their players in half. We only managed one shot on target in the first half from Flack We played better in the second half but conceded a second through a fantastic effort from Manny Williams. We bought Burbridge on and he duly scored straight away. We went three at the back and conceded a bad goal from a corner. Dormer pulled one back for us with a great strike from the edge of the box, but over all Leyton just about edged it. Leyton have some quality players like Williams and Palmer and its a bit surprising they are not doing better in the league. To be fair to our lads at least we never gave up and hopefully we can bounce back next week although I think we need to give some thought to how we line up away from home. Rumours about Nathan get stronger than a pair of my week old socks. McMahon Macca Heffer Blewitt Kerrigan (Hill) Whelpdale Hunter Dormer Hodges (Burbridge) Elder Flack (Holland) snu: Game, Swaine. urchinboy01
inconsistent!! go out last week beat AFC Wimbledon 3-0 play them off the park then go out and lose 3-2 to Leyton !!
Rick the Dick
It's disapointing after such good results leading up to today. But a loss & a win are better than all those early season draws. So we just pick ourselves up & get on with it. State of pitch was a leveler in my opinion & when you look at Leytons recent form going down 3-2 at their place is no disgrace. finisterre
As in Division 3? Would be a shame to see him go, but I suppose that would be a nice payday for the club?

GazzaBTFC
Yes well done indeed...Certainly underlines the effort the player has put in and the club in recognising and helping the player to develop his talent. Well done Nathan

He was simply pointing out that a different result may have been expected considering your win in the previous week. Bit touchy there Mr Clark. I cannot see any sort of nastiness or insult there, in fact it's much like posts mentioning Chelmsford.
GazzaBTFC
Well, who really give a toss about his opinion (or yours). I can't see any reason why someone who supports a Ryman League One team would wish to comment on our results...except to get up our collective noses...Strike one for the "wonderful" and even handed Urchins...Once again sticking their collective comments where they're not needed. GazzaBTFC
Once again our away form strikes!!! Call it nerves, call it over confiedence but I agree with JL we didn't look like a team that had just won four games on the bounce. We lacked the physical presence that we had shown away to Worthing and at home to AFC Wimbledon and Tonbridge. Some of our passing was woe full for periods of the game allowing Leyton to break down our "play" and dominate the midfield at times. It was only in the last 20 that we really started to look as if we believed we were the better team and started to push on to threaten their goal, hence the two goals. Lets not be despondant though. We're still 8 points off the top and once again the results yesterday halped us but we cannot keep relying on other teams to take points off each other. At the moment we have played 18 games and have 31 points, which is 1.7 points a game. Over the month of December, our average points per game has upped to 2.25, above the average that'll get us into the play off's. We have to sort out our away form sooner than later and either start playing as we know we can or filthing a result or a draw. There is some pressure now to perform against Bromley and East Thurrock but I believe we can do it and really push on up the league in the new year. jl
If it's true re Nathan, which presumably it is, then its a fantastic achievement both for him personally and for our club. A great opportunity for him to test himself at a higher level. I really hope he does well for himself. What better incentive for our other young players, knowing that if you do well then you will be noticed. Also I'm sure it will be a great bargaining tool in bringing other young and talented players to the club. Well done to everyone concerned! Gazza this is a discussion forum, regardless of who you support, and killing the forum by acting like Peter Foster, renders it sterile. Also makes you look bad to other supporters, as 'we' have found out.......... Quote: You are very very easy to wind up. extaffyjim
Such a disappointing result. We started fairly well i thought, a few decent passing moves, but after the first 15 mins or so, we were giving the ball away far too cheaply and far too often. There first goal was a decent strike from a free kick. We had a few chances to level it before half time, but Leyton were probably good for their lead. Their second goal was the killer, fantastic strike from Manny Williams. Immediately after the second goal, we suddenly looked up for it, which i cant understand. Thats how we should be approaching games from the start, not when 2-0 down. Burbridge got one back, but then missed a great opportunity by spanking the ball high and wide, when he could have cut in a lot closer to the goal and been through on the keeper. Then we defended poorly from a corner and they got the third. Im afraid to admit that i left a couple of minutes after this, and missed our 2nd goal. Bad result, but Leyton were a fairly good team and Manny Williams is outstanding. If we can avoid defeat in our next 3 games itll still be a good month for us. Dont want to sound like a whinger, but Leytons "gamesmanship" was pretty blatant and appalling, and sadly the referee had absolutely no bollox and let them get away with it. He fell for the cheating every time. He also failed to give us what i thought was a clear penalty was Flack turned in the box and chopped down. Having said that, the refs poor performance doesnt disguise the fact that we werent good enough yesterday either, so theres no point complaining. Huge game next Saturday now
Ryan.c
Yep, we were, IMHO, nothing short of crap. To be honest, it was probably expected as we've had a couple of good results recently, so you know that a shocker is due. Leyton looked like a determined team and closed us down effectively and deserved the victory. A couple of players looked like they didn't quite fancy it and there were some very poor performances. The next 3 games are massive and we need to kick start another winning run by taking 3 points from Bromley next weekend.

Simon BTFC
I said in the pre-match discussion thread that if we didn't produce the work-rate and commitment that we did against AFCW and Tonbridge then we would struggle. Believe me I don't like being proven right on this... We played ok in the final half hour, and if Rikki hadn't been a little unfortunate with a bobble when through we may have drawn level at 2-2. The second Leyton goal was a cracker, worthy of any game at any level, but we were also punished for conceding too many free kicks around the area. Our passing was generally sloppy, and the service to the front two was poor, in the first half in particular. The important thing now is that we bounce back, and show the resiliance and mental toughness that we need. I assume the rumour that TC and JL have heard is the same as the one I heard, and if true then I am delighted for Nathan, he's done us proud there. Also pleased for Rikki yesterday, if Nathan should move on then he looks hungry to take over in the No. 9 shirt. Now I hope you'll forgive me, but two things pressed the Simon BTFC-rant button yesterday. Firstly the play-acting of the Leyton right back who did the full on pirouette-and-face-grab after being tackled by Hodgey. Any contact was a) minimal and well below the knee so his actions were purely designed to get Lee sent off. He should be ashamed of himself and so should the Leyton coach who condoned it when I vented my spleen at him. Secondly (and apologies for the non-football nature of this), how can a self respecting club welcome one of those buyadvdmate chinamen into their bar? This is not the harmless saving of a few quid on a dvd, but making money that goes on terrorism, drug dealing and people traffiking. The Leyton coach and commitee members who bought dvds should also be ashamed. Rant over!

The Leyton bench did seem a bit quick to enter into dialogue with the crowd. Sometimes over some fairly innoquous comments about play-acting etc.. I guess they're probably not used to having many spectators to deal with. Pretty un-proffesional though, and a failing that could be exploited by the synically minded
