todays game

Thought we just about got away with that one today. In the second half we seemed to lose our shape and allowed Enfield to come right back into the game. Having said that, we did it where it mattered and that’s in front of the goal.

The first half was all Canvey and on that 45 minutes alone we were well worth 3 points. I haven’t seen such skilful, flowing football since the season we won the Ryman Premier League. The way in which these lads have grown over the past three months has been a pleasure to witness. I especially notice how well our forwards can shield the ball and use their strength to keep defenders at arms length.

We must be careful though about getting sloppy when the opposition fights back and gets back into the game. Enfield did well to get two more goals in the second half and we panicked. However we kept battling away and when Dobbo (everyone's MOTM I would suggest) got the fourth it was the perfect ending.

Who would have thought a couple of months ago that we would be well and truly in the frame before Christmas? I couldn’t give a toss what other fans from Hx say about us. I am so delighted to have been just a tiny part of the re-birth of CIFC after the events at the end of last season. Potters Bar will be a minor interruption in the build up for the big one on Boxing Day and what a day that will be. For the first time in a long while, I am really enjoying my footy again. Thank you lads.

Fair comments there Merv ,We gave you too much of a head start at 3-1 right on half time, with your third goal a very sloppy pass that was put on a plate for your fella. But instead of capitulating we did make a game of it and what a game it turned out to be . I was a bit gobsmacked about the freekick that lead to your forth ,The no 11 made a meal of it ,but thats the way it goes.

This may seem like a bit of a controversial/negative post considering the successful spell we're experiencing at the minute, but this is my first game since Witham and I'm telling it like I saw it...

First half, we were stung by an early goal. Ricky did well to get to the shot, but was unfortunate to par it into the path of the Striker. We found ourselves on the backfoot and had to step up a gear to peg ourselves back. This we did and did with style, we got the ball on the floor pushed it around from wing to wing, squaring the ball off at every oppertunity and not giving Enfield a sniff. Ruggy was unlucky not to get the first of Canvey's, but we knew it wouldn't be long until to ball was in the back of the net.

Dobbo's free-kick was quality. From where I was standing I couldn't see him on the ball and thought it would've been a left foot curl into the bottom corner from Lee Jay. But Dobbo fooled both the Goalkeeper and I by thumping it straight at goal leaving the 'Keeper motionless.

Dobbo's second was a real poach, coming in from deep to hammer home after a bit of pinball wasn't cleared properly.

Unfortunately, I didn't see Curran's strike as I was queuing for a burger

Second half we wanted more of the same but as the official site suggests, complancency kicked in. Enfield didn't drop their heads and they came out with more bite.

Their second goal was quite a tasty effort, but the player should never have been allowed to run into the area that far. The defender, (I think it was Dobbo actually) was backing away and just letting the guy run. He should've been taken care of before he even got into the area.

Their third was a scramble, it wasn't cleared, they put us under pressure. The corner that it came from though should never have happened if certain players didn't wander off.

Thankfully Dobbo's hattrick was completed shortly after they had equalised. I think had it taken any longer to restore our lead then Enfield could've been in with a shout of taking all three points, particularly with that major balls up from Ricky. I could hear the gasps from the Enfield fans as they followed the ball narrowly wide of the goal. But the fourth came and then we stepped up another gear again and the flowing football of the first half returned for the final ten-fifteen minutes.

Couple of moans:

- Lee Jay's positioning in the second half was awful. Often Chris Bourne had to defend and attack with no support while Lee was trying to get back from coming too far into the centre. It was the same with Leon on occasions but nowhere near as bad. Often Lee would try to break through the centre, and when the attack failed, Enfield would counter down the right where Bourne had to do the job of two men. This is what lead to the corner that lead to Enfield's equaliser.

- In the second half we seemed very reluctant to get the ball on the floor. It's as if we were encouraging the opposition to come back into the game and make it a challenge for us. Once we got the fourth it was fine, we kept it on the floor, why did we not do this in the first place? Out Midfield was bypassed at some points and the ball would travel straight from the feet of Rugg or Curran, past Edgar and Roberts for either Dobbo of Jesus to deal with. As with the many seasons I've seen Canvey play, we lost our momentum when we lost our width, again this spurs from the wingers coming in too central and overcrowding the middle.

I'm in two minds of how it would feel to Enfield fans on their way home tonight. I thought Canvey were much the better team in the first half and we deserved our win for that performance alone, however I would feel hard done by not to get a point looking at the game as a whole. A win for Canvey by the single goal seems fair in the end though and we're up to second for now. Onwards to Potters Bar!

Question for the Yellow Army in regards to yesterday's game:

Who or what prompted the reaction towards the Enfield dugout after scoring our fourth goal?

We made a few silly mistakes yesterday and let Enfield back into the game but we got the 3 points which is what matters

Not suprised the wall got out of the way of Dobbo`s shot, i think it would have reached the seawall if the net had not stopped it. I wonder what odds you could have got on him scoring a hat-trick, well done Dobbo

Good to see the attendance staying at a healthy level, i thought it would be lower yesterday with a few people getting dragged out shopping.

There`s a match report on the Enfield forum

Everything went in slow motion as we were screaming for the ball to go in when your keeper slipped over before picking the ball up i couldn't believe it just waddled past the post... Also was hilarious when your ball boys said boastingly ''at least we have been in the conference and won the fa trophy, have you ever been in the conference'' reply was yes and we've won the fa trophy TWICE..priceless look on the lads faces'

Great performance in the first half but lost the plot a little in the second half. Great hattrick from Dobbo. The first goal was quality and another great goal from Jay Curran to add to his already growing reputation.

Another good 3 points.

definitely not good for my blood pressure!

but certainly a very entertaining game - although it felt more like a Boxing day fixture

well deserved MOTM for Dobbo.

And i must say i agree with the quote given by John Batch to the Echo.

"Ryan Edgar was superb today, recapturing the early season form he showed before he had a spell out with a bad ankle injury".

And - "Lee Jay gave a magnificent demonstration of what wing play is all about - not only doing his own job well, but making sure that the opponent he was up against couldn't get forward"

Oh, and a quote from my workmates,

"well, that sounds like a promotion winning run mate" Don't know about that, but its certainly proving to be the most enjoyable season i can recall.

These game are not good for the old heart and also the voice. I needed a beer to recover from that on Saturday. I was still in the clubhouse at midnight!!!!
