Draw looking a distinct possibility. I assume a replay would be Tuesday 7:45?

Always look on the bright side of life.........etc.

It's a 90 minute game Brian. It only takes a second to score a goal !

Cheers,

Interesting........ York, Weymouth and Woking all out already.

Cambridge losing 5-0 at Histon and Aldershot 2-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon were interesting results.

And I see George Boyd scored a hat-trick in four minutes for Stevenage!

They seem to have thought the same about us!

Play then stopped again when Luke Moore was booked for diving after a last ditch tackle halted another surging Gravesend attack.

If that were the case then the match would have been stopped at the time of the so-called dive, Moore booked then and a free kick given to H&W at the place of the dive.

What really happened was that Moore was booked about three minutes later, presumably for continuing to complain at the lack of the penalty.

Ironically the player that H&W had sent off 5 minutes from time should have gone about 80 minutes earlier when he pulled down MacDonald on the edge of (or just inside) the box with only the keeper to beat. A clear case of a professional foul denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

I'm afraid that today's referee made the usual run of the mill conference referees look like Collini.

From a Welling fan, they are. Ignore the one-eyed report on their site, it's always like that. Whenever they kick us off the park we're described as physical and with Ian Baird in charge down there, it's to be expected.

Mind you, they're a bunch of paupers who live hand to mouth, week by week but can afford to have Dean "where's Lindsey" Holdsworth on the payroll.

Today's game had all the hallmarks of a depressing defeat to lower-league opposition and, seeing the pitch and our slightly weakened side this feeling wasn't put to rest. However, on starting the game it became apparent that Haven't were no Borehamwood, Chelmsford or Kettering. Somehow we only managed one goal in the first half, having had two penalty claims turned down (I feel the first was outside the box and the second probably a dive by Moore) and dozens of attempts on goal. When we did score it was a real shocker - a corner taking a couple of deflections, one off their dire no.3, who later got sent off. We were rightly punished for our lack of finishing when shocking defending by McCarthy let Baptiste in.

It seemed almost impossible that we couldn't beat this shocking team, but also quite possible that we still might not manage it. With no substitutions by Daish when perhaps Sodje should have come on, it seemed a Tuesday replay was almost inevitable. Finally, though, we started playing for a couple of minutes and this brought our second - a sublime finish by Long.

Against any other team our lack of interest and composure in front of goal would have cost us, but Haven't were quite shocking and thoroughly deserved to be knocked out, even if we didn't really deserve to go through.

as it was last week apart from sodje dropped to the bench, luke moore comes in.

Keeling got knee injury and in comes Liam Coleman.

James Smith back on the bench after injury.

De Bolla was also absent injured - the other player who came in was Opinel.

Then again, you could say we did ultimately deserve to progress, despite missing a number of chances, because we were better than the opposition. Our poor record in the Trophy historically, and cups in general in recent years, means we should be grateful we did get through. It wasn't at all pretty, and we were far from being at our best, but 'job done' is probably the best way to describe yesterday's game. A victory based more on hard graft than silky football.

They were awful and we were good enough to beat them - you don't get extra points for style in cups and at least we are in the draw for the next round.

The lateness of any substitution was worrying before Long's goal sent us through - the monotonous thumping of the ball down the centre for their giant 5 to head away for a 20 minute period didn't add much to the game.

It is easy to see why they are doing OK in their league - Baptiste is clearly better than most in their league and their defence is able to deal with kick and rush which is why we looked so much more dangerous when we got the ball down.

The referee was appalling with a few nasty challenges left unchecked - the two penalty appeals were a case in point. Charlie was caught and therefore Gregory should have been dismissed - if Moore wasn't fouled then he dived and therefore should have been booked for it - not for his pointless protestations. The tackle on Long that he was booked for retaliating against would have been a red in the Conference and Fitzroy Simpson did nothing but kick, moan and interfere the whole game yet still escaped without a card.

The pitch didn't help either - it's just pleasing to actually win in a Cup competition.
