Boxing Day segregation

It's official (what a surprise)...

'Further to recent rumour and conjecture, the segregated area for visitors has been temporarily extended for both of the matches over the holiday period. Following advice from the local Police, the area will now extend around from the Hatfield Road terrace up to the edge of the Coca Cola stand where there will be a 'sterile' area. This means that the two turnstiles in that corner, which are accessed from Clarence Road and the car park will now be designated for visiting supporters. Home fans should enter via the four turnstiles at the York Road End. The gates will open at 11.30am and both sets of supporters are advised to arrive early to ease congestion in the streets and at the turnstiles. The Club recommends that those travelling by car use the City Station Car Park which is only 300 metres away.'

Well, Laz, as it is the season of good will to all men, a few pointers.

We, at The Mighty Iron, have just got planning to extend our main seated stand to 559 seats. The extension to our existing structure will cost the Club £58k for the foundations & build and a further £13k to re-seat the whole lot with new seats. Total £71k.

We're using the same company that did all the work at Grays. I spoke to their estimator and he felt that a build for a new 500+ seat stand from scratch would cost circa £120K in total. This would include new seats but you, however, could re-use those seats I bought from Enfield and Reading - nowt wrong with 'em. The 500+ seat stand would be 40m long and seven rows of seats deep. (and, for you, would fit nicely in front of your clubhouse building!)

He also advised that a cantilever roof behind each goal at Clarence Park would probably cost about £25k for each end but, hey, why not leave the Hatfield Road End uncovered so our 'friends' from Stevenage get wet! New toilet blocks and turnstiles add another £25k.

So, for you guys, the total cost could be less than £200k, with all of it eligible for 50% grant aid from the Football Foundation. When you go up again, extend the seats to 1,000 and, hey presto, Clarence Park is a Football League graded ground!

Simple really.
