from ducks to swifts

Better start early this week with so few of us getting on to Jeffs wave length in selection last week

10 goals for and 3 against in the last three games Ill go for the starting line-up against the ducks to start against the swifts

We looked tight for 87 of the 90 minutes which is a change

We looked to be developing a consistancy through the team that has been steadily improving

We made the ducks look very ordinary which goes against their good run of recent solid results

I'll drink to that. There again, I'll drink to most things!

I have bleated on in my match reports this season about inconsistency. Well, for the last few games consistency seems to have returned. The whole is stronger than the sum of the component parts and I would go along with an unchanged starting 11, even if (on paper) that wasn't our strongest team. Too often this season we have had a team that, on paper, has looked unbeatable. But, like a good wine, it's all to do with the blend. There are better individual grape varieties than pinot noir, chenin blanc or chardonnay. But blend them together skillfully and what do you get? Champagne.

Once again, I'll drink to that.

For those that can't remember the big news event when we put seven past the Swifts just happened to take place on 11th September 2001!!!

If I remember rightly over to two seasons we've won something like 13-1 overall in our fixtures with them!!!

I remember when we played Swifts at the Lane last season and we beat them 6-1. We were 3-0 up inside 15 minutes and Lee Boylan scored 4 that night.

More of the same tomorrow lads!

Gravesend v Stevenage today. That's a real relegation six pointer Super Daz.

Bet you're still smarting after losing to Margate again in midweek.

Anyway good luck, a win today should see you alright for the rest of the season.

hard work but job done.. great second goal.. bit boring watching the swifts play it like an away game with 9 across the back/middle.. but yu could see why they did, once we got the goal and they had to push up they looked vunerable..mind you they did miss a great chance to equalise but 2-0 to us was well deserved in my opinion

We left it late today but still a good win. Nice to see Ollie get his first goal for the club and I think he could be a very useful signing.

It will be interesting to see what team Jeff puts out on Tuesday against Stortford with the Northwich game in mind.

Does he rest several players or carry on with the same team?

If we can win on Tuesday that will take us into third, positioned nicely behind Albans and Shots. Hopefully we'll have Rudi back for either Tuesday or Friday's games.

P.S Canv you're right, today was our first clean sheet in the league since Grays way back in September. That seems like ages ago!

It was nice to see Ollie score today, and despite what anyone says he scored with the inside of his leg JUST above his knee!!!

I think today Brayley played better than he has done for a while, (there done it...wasn't so hard!) Benno was on fire in the second half, definate MOM and does anyone know the extent of Proths' injury or is it just a precaution?

Both JK and Boylan took a battering throughout today's game and managed to make it through 90 minutes with only minor bumps & bruises. Notice how all the clubs we play love to man-mark Jeff Minton!!

Also good to see Cowan playing again, an all round fine performance from the Gulls and listening to BBC Essex & the Heybridge manager, obviously their view of the game only extends to the halfway line!!!

I thought that Bertie made himself a constant threat not only to the defenders trying to stop crosses, but also those trying to stop goals. He wasn't selfish today, and everyone has come out saying how well he played. Now if he can keep this mentality up then he'll be a QUALITY player to have in the side, as he's got so much skill and ability.

I thought JK played a blinder in the second half, his 'never say die' attitude makes him the player he is. Thought the defence were generally good as defenders, but their service from the back did look suspect first half. Benno is really establishing himself as a first teamer, it will be interesting to see whether he makes the Northwich line-up. I think it is fair to say that Benno is not the best of defenders, and under pressure he can be caught out. However, now he is playing where he wants to his true value to the squad has been revealed, just ashame this wasn't discovered earlier!

Another dodgy Ref and Lino combination could have ruined it all for us on another day, but luckily their incompetence did not spoil our great run.

Oh well, another 3 points and teams above us faltering, maybe I need to consider changing the signature at the end of this message!!!

j.k. is always so good and puts himself about so much that everyone expects it of him now.. rapidly becoming one of canveys 'all time' stars. the defence did defend which was nice for a change..a few great tackles from wardy as usual and a brilliantly timed one from cowan in the first half.. distribution was a bit slow and poor early doors, but there wasn't much movement in front of them and we ended up giving the swifts to much time to reorganise

J.K is an extremely underrated player, he rarely has a bad game and he can always be relied upon to give 110%.

I think it was a tribute to how well Jeff Minton's been playing lately, that he was man marked today. Still that gives more space for Lee Boylan to do what he does best: score goals!

I don't think JK is ever under-rated, I always find it hard to make a comment when I give him my rating, cause it's the same week in, week out, "gives 110%, battles hard, and never gives up".

I also notice that Benno picked up his fifth yellow card yesterday - should be a one match ban coming up for him then soon.
