Havant & Waterlooville - IMPORTANT

I put it down to personal enjoyment. Theres nothing better than waking up on a Saturdy watching Soccer AM. Crack open a can of Fosters (at11am) then waiting for the time to stroll down the hill about 2.00 have a few in the bar then I'm redy to let off steam. It's the way I enjoy my matchday others prefer it a different way that's up to them but this arguement started with the silent ones complaining.

Here's one for you then:-

Why do most teams have a better home record than away ?

Is it the way the groundsman cuts the grass ?

Are the home changing rooms better ?

Do the away team suffer from travel sickness ?

or maybe, does the home crowd and atmosphere have a bearing on this ?

Discuss......

Cheers,

Why do some teams have better away records (like us a couple of seasons back)? Do we get driven on by the 'atmosphere' created by the home team (re excellent results at Exeter, Morecambe etc...)?

The best post on the whole thread. It's not about who makes more noise then the other or cheering on the boys from 2-0 to get a draw v Exeter. It's about enjoyment. It's a myth that more people enjoy singing and loud noise, if this were true we'd have a lot more than 100 singing. The fact that you feel that you helped the boys get the point v Exeter is, I feel, silly but is still an important one. It's important that people feel they are helping the team and that they can feel needed by the club, otherwise whats the point. Thats why you see Alan Kimble asking for more noise, the more you see that the more important you'll feel. The more the crowd feel important the more they'll turn up = more money and more chance of success.

Don't stop making noise, you do an important job. You create an atmosphere which encourages people to come back which gives us more money which has put us in our current position. So yes you have done your part, nobody is denying that. What people don't like is the drum. It isn't needed. You use the Exeter game as an example well I use the Havent game. There we were looking at a draw and a replay and your singing, without the drum spur'd us on to victory.

Stamford Bridge is a graveyard yet Chelsea are Champions. Away fans traditionally sing louder then then home fans - FACT! yet teams always do better at their home ground.

In the end, I'm sure the players appreciate the noise a lot more then some people on here would like to admit.

(is it just the ones who still wont accept Daish as a decent manager perhaps??)

so your losing, you've been given the half time rant from the manager, would you rather come back to the singing and drumming, or the silence, with groans and moans?

I'm sure the players would much rather hear some vocal singing support then just come out to silence...

As Stuart said, it is about personal enjoyment at the end of the day, that's why we watch football. Personally, I like to get up, see the Yorkshire News, eat pasta, cycle to the game, sing my heart out, go home, relax in front of the tele or on Football Manager. However I can appreciate that someone's idea of enjoyment isn't being with the drum and singing with a load of (mostly!!!) twentysomethings with lots of swear words. And just so long as we enjoy it, and we're ultimately pulling in the right direction, with Quecerasha's financial support the Plough end's vocal and visual support, and the support the club recieves off of everyone who writes on here and goes to Stonebridge Road, then I'm sure we can put the issue of whether we like the drum or not into perspective with other, more important matters that we're usually together on, and get along!

Wouldn't be half as entertaining though...

I cant believe what a miserable bunch of bastards most fleet fans are.

At the end of the day, we're there singing and banging the drum to enjoy our selves. I couldnt give a flying f*** whether or not it pisses off half of you miserable old sods. We're trying to create an atmosphere, how can you lot tell me you honesty enjoy freezing your nuts off in the middle of winter to the equivalent of a funeral.

The problem we have as a club is that the supports segregated. Generally speaking, you've got the younger supporter thats come along in the last five years and enjoys the atmosphere. Then you've got the old bastards that have been around for donkeys years and obviously must have enjoyed the quiet of the days with support of under 500. They don't like it that the club's starting to appeal to a younger age group.

Nice to see that the 'each to his own' message continues to be spread through this thread.

It's worth pointing out that those posters on here expressing their dislike of the drum are doing just that - expressing their dislike of the drum in particular, rather than singing full stop. Singing can certainly have a beneficial effect on the atmosphere at Stonebridge Road, and I'm sure few, if any, of us would disagree with this. We're just querying whether the usage of a drum as an accompaniment is strictly necessary (in fact, this is perhaps an inappropriate description of the drum in this case - given that such a relatively small proportion of the Fleet home crowd take part in the singing, the drum can easily drown out any words being sung and develop into a monotonous thumping - see Harry's comments above).
