Time to start on me now ehh Steve! I have never said they play well in every game if you care to read my posts, but trying to blame the team for attendances is rubbish but then you are a pessimist as shown last season!

very well said wellsie if i spout RUBBISH then so be it but i havnt seen any other explanation offered by taffy.

That is because I haven't got one, posters are printed and put out, Cookie gets publicity in the papers, Wellsie is doing radio broadcasts. He is probably right in that if we stay up near top crowds will start to come in New Year. May I ask apart from moaning what you are doing constructive Steve?

Just got in so late with the comments. What I can't believe is that the club has budgeted for crowds above 700. Where have they got a figure higher than that from? On anothers site it states that our average home gate is higher than last season by, I think, 3-4% so any sensible club, who have remained in the same division, I would think would budget on the worst case senario, or at least the same as last season. No club should take cup matches into considreration because there is no gurantee to progress or who you are drawn against. Lets face it you could go out in the first match in the FA Cup away from home and make an overall loss if its a minor team. That, I think, has been the problem this year with the promises and expectations in the FA Cup. What I also can't believe is there is no-one carrying out commercial activities, be it full or part time.

Have been checking this seasons attendances they are AFC Wimbledon (1,358) 450 of which were at the away end with maybe 100 more at the most who got in our end. Result 0-0.

Chelmsford City 796 also with good away support, but no more than 100? Result 3-0.

Slough Town 709, maybe another 80-100 away support. Result 2-1.

So when we have had larger crowds we have actually done well. I rest my case thro my rose coloured glasses <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Having the pyramid systerm in football could be the problem that attendances are lower . When we was playing in the conferance there was no north or south underneath . No disrespect to the teams in our league but a lot of people will have heard of only 6-7 clubs with a name and history that they recognise . That leaves 17-18 other clubs that are not so well known so that means not worth going to .

The Conf sth & nth have only got about 9 clubs between them that get 750 or more at a game , if we reached the Conf sth we would make that 10 clubs easy adding at least 250- 350 to our att giving us the 1000 we want to see at games .

We jumped from Dr M to Conf in one go, this time it will mean 2 jumps and each time we make one the att will grow because each jump gives you better teams and better more profiled teams means more people .

I would.

Conference football and its 'national' status is a much better standard than the Ryman.

We would become a team in the 'fifth' division, and that in its own right draws the floating voter.

Even conference south has a semi national status as oppsed to the Ryman which is really the Kent ,Essex and London league plus a couple

Alan, not EVERY game has failed with a crowd I agree but thats not the the point I was trying to make.I am talking of those games when EXTRA effort has made to get people in,the team has been seen to have underperformed.I'm sure Steve didnt mean EVERY game literally. It has been noticable in these instances at home on a few occasions.

The gazette this week was one instance. Potters Bar was well advertised more than usual also. My hopes after the Staines game was to get a good result & then hopefully get that unreachable 1000 in for the next home game.It was with that in mind & with the fact that both clubs were sitting pretty 1st & 2nd in the league that I felt the opportunity too good to miss. Unfortunately Ramsgate let us down too.Yes Ramsgate. The article was supposed to be a joint effort hence both a Gate fan & a Rams fan giving similar views. Both clubs let us down when we really wanted them to show the form that was highlighted & which had been up to that point. At half time everything was going according to plan but the second half killed that idea off completely. People wont have remembered the first half. The second half & the end result will have been foremost in their memories after the game, especially first time visitors, unfortunately.Don't forget we had Ramsgate supporters to impress that night also. We did in the first half I reckon but they must have gone away thinking what a crap side we were because in all honesty & for whatever reason we were after that second half performance.Still maybe they will underestimate us because of it rather than fear us now.Maybe after all something good may well have come out of it,for the local derby at least.

Of course this is only ONE detail that prevents crowds coming & in no way am I saying that there aren't other reasons why, many of which have been mentioned in posts previous to this one.

Not long been home but I found it encouraging & healthy to hear such a good debate made on this subject.

As Frankie rightly says we ALL have to spread the word more.Just a little bit more from each of us(word of mouth etc) could make a big difference.Unfortunately we cant control what happens on the field but we can have a say in how we portray & advertise the club & the team in particular from off the field & away from Hartsdown Park.

We got good results against Bromley and Wimbledon at home playing average. Against Chelmsford we were good, i think the frustrating thing for us regular suporters. We see great football then get 600 + on a tue night against Staines. After telling people how great we are. We looked awful couldnt pass water.

This team is one of the best we have had for a while. We have the best striker and the hardest working supporting striker in pinnock. Without doubt at the very least we will be in the playoffs. On our day we can beat the best as we have done. So we have plenty to look forward to this season. We know we have the potential of big crowds as in the past. We WILL see that again be it winning the title or in the play offs.

Exactly Gringo.My point exactly.

When we "push" the point of how good they are playing (& deserved so at the time)they tend to let us down, let themselves down & let the people who are paying their wages down.Again I am only talking of the times we "PUSH" the point further than usual. Not at other times. Hence a previous post of mine mentioning "why do we bother?".Maybe we shouldn't then I in particular wouldn't be so disappointed.

Anyway we have a game today & the team I am sure will put things right but it will be a shame if a well earned victory,is had & its not in front of the large majority of home fans.Result-wise it will be fantastic to win but for getting more in the gate it wont affect those that are considering coming.

Some don't believe things unless they see it for themselves. To get more home supporters to come again we have to impress them at home should they decide to come in the first place, surely.
