Smoking...

I have just read the following statement on the Kent County Cricket Club website (stay with me here)...

In response to the 2006 Health Act which prohibits smoking in almost all enclosed public spaces, Kent County Cricket Club today confirmed that, from the 1 April 2007, smoking will not be allowed in any of the stands, seats, club shops, bars, restaurants or hospitality areas at The St Lawrence Ground at Canterbury, The Kent County Cricket Club Ground at Beckenham or The Nevill Ground at Tunbridge Wells.

With this in mind I assume that GNFC would have to also ban all smoking from any covered stand in the ground (as they are enclosed spaces)? Leaving only smoking areas as the bit between the main stand and the Plough end stand. Bit in front of the Tea bar and the Swanscombe end and anywhere round the back of the stands, outside the bar.

Discuss! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I did read somewhere that an enclosed psace must have 3 distinct side. So the Covered Terrace may survive , but then as a non smoker , I have nevr found it to be uncomfortable in there as there is sufficent air movement to take the smoke away.

I believe in Scotland , one authority is replacing three sided bus shelters with two sided.

KCCC have gone beyond the rules then as they have banned all smoking in any seated area. Two sections of the Canterbury ground are in the open air. Yet have a smoking ban. I have sat in the new seated area at the Plough Lane end once for the 1st half but some git sat in front of us and started chain smoking from the second he sat down to half time and the smoking was blowing right on us. So we moved second half and have not been back in there since.

"Charlie" is a vital member of the team, but to my mind is not the best of finishers, missing a fair number of chances. If you take away the Penalties he's scored, his goals from open play is not too impressive.

As Charlie is equal leading scorer in the Conference, and by all accounts, highly sought after, that tells me your thoughts on his finishing are isolated, or you have been watching too much premiership football.
Do not forget that he is not just a goalscorer. He is a creator of goals, and also puts in the miles about the field.
To my mind, bearing in mind the opposition he is playing against, he is right up there with the likes of Bostock and Portway.

If you go to a match at any prem ground now, I believe you will find that the whole of the stadiums are now non smoking. I also believe that as from 1st of july all public areas will be non smoking.

As you are on a private ground, you have to comply with the rules set out by the company/team who own the ground.

They own the ground, they make up the rules.

No smoking = no smoking, no hoodies = no hoodies.

It's happened at Bluewater, it can happen at any venue in the country.

If Fleet say the ground is a no smoking ground then that is it, end of.

Difference now it,s against the Law , as before it was by choice. The choice has been taken away by the Goverment to the best of my knowledge.Even in the good old smoking dens of the uk, Namely the pub, private property, they own the ground to, but have to comply by law I think you will find.As it is a public venue. Plus the Fleet dont own there ground.

I find it slightly odd that there is a yearning to pick apart the means by which a striker reaches his season's goal tally. The same was done to Che (oh, he only scored against woking or from the spot), a harsh criticism to level at one of our top 10 all-time goalscorers. Crystal Palace didn't care when Andy Johnson scored so many penalties, nor did Liverpool complain when Fowler scored so many goals against Arsenal, so nor should we pick at Charlie's excellent goalscoring record with us.

Blimey - criticism similar to that which used to be directed at Che ('only scores penalties/against Woking').

No doubt this comparison will really rile those Che-baiters on here.

I stated:-Charlie is a vital member of the team.I recognise that. What I also said was he was not a natural finisher..

That goal against Weymouth was better than many natural finishers I've seen.

27 goals in 46 games (or 27 in 40 before his recent lean spell) would seem to indicate someone who can finish as well as any other in this division, regardless of a handful of penalties included in that stat.
