Free Kicks

I find it incredible that a better system has not been adapted against free kicks within shooting range, which cost us dear, two goals yesterday alone.

My solution:-Pack the goal area with bodies,(the goal and 6yd area),think how difficult it would be to score, rather than let someone pick his spot, with a g/k trying to cover the whole goal.I'ts worth a try, nothing to loose, and perhaps start a new trend in defending free kicks. How about it L.D.

From a former keeper's point of view, I used to hate having more than 3/4 in the wall. It was ALWAYS easier to save a shot if you saw it all the way.

Bear in mind that having 18 or 19 bodies in the box would certainly obcure Lance's view, but would also guarantee deflections and rebounds.

The answer is to have a limited wall and only go man for man marking.

Are you serious?Head it, Kick it,Block it.Not all the team would be involved in the area.Anythings better than giving a free shot on goal.

How are you going to pack the area but not involve all the team?
By the time you have set a wall it doesn't leave many players for packing.
Lets say you leave two players outside the area, so you have someone to clear the ball to otherwise it will come straight back, four players in the wall and a goalkeeper, that leaves four bodies to pack the area.

I think a wall is probably needed from free kicks around the edge of the box - at about 20 yards. Few keepers would have a chance with a well struck shot from that range.

35 yards out most keepers would fancy their chances, particularly given a good sight of the ball all the way.

One factor not mentioned is the way the balls used swerve about and dip.

They really do seem to bend about, giving players like Harkness and our own DeBolla a big advantage from over 30 yards.
