Aylesbury Vale - RIP

Recommended Posts

Folks - I'm surprised none of you picked up on the following article in Non-League last Sunday signalling the demise of Aylesbury Vale at the end of this season:

Aylesbury United will merge with landlords Aylesbury Vale at the end of the season. The Ducks, who have been sharing with Leighton Town while improvements to bring Vale's Council owned Haywood Way ground up to Southern One standard are being planned, have finally ruled out a return to their previous headquarters. Plans to amalgamate with SSML Vale will be brought forward while talks between United officials and the Council over the ground improvements carry on. From next season all teams associated at both Club's will play under the banner of Aylesbury United. The Ducks quit Buckingham Road at the end of last season following plans by its owner to install an artificial pitch and use it as a multi sports stadium. The ground was sold two months ago for a sum believed to be around 1.75M. Shortly afterwards United were approached by a businessman who offered to buy the ground back, but the new owners wanted 2.85M in the belief that it can be developed for housing. The asking price was considered too high for a stadium with limitations and so the homecoming idea was finally abandoned. A United spokesman said 'we have now dismissed any thoughts of returning to Buckingham Road, we have at all times been committed to Haywood Way and the amalgamation with Aylesbury Vale. Permission for works needed to bring Vale's facilities up to the higher standard will be sought soon, but the local authority have already indicated support. Problems with a river flood plain at Haywood Way, currently the subjuct of separate talks with the Environment Agency, mean that it cannot be developed beyond Southern League standards. The Club will keep the ground in the longer term for an academy based on the current junior section while seeking a new modern home elsewhere in the town.

I heard the rumour a few months ago, as I understand it the rules on a new club being formed from a merger of two teams is that they must play at the level of the lowest placed league team.

I don't know if they can get away with saying that Aylesbury United absorbed Vale instead of merging, but I doubt it.

Anyway I like the new name, taking the first part from Aylebury Vale and the second from Aylesbury United <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

AWK - Yes we were discussing this with New Bradwell St Peter today who seemed to be interested, it's a shame somebody from Aylesbury Vale can't be bothered to come on here to give us their take on the merger and how they feel about leaving the SSML at the end of this season.

I've been following a few of the rumours & stories on the Aylesbury Utd message board since the summer. You would think even running the existing Vale as a reserve side would be an option as Utd only have their 1st team & Youth sides at present.

Getting the facilities up to scratch for Southern League football have proved to be tougher that first thought. The original ground share with Leighton Town was meant to be for 4 matches & I'm sure will drag on into the New Year.

It would be a shame to lose Vale from the league as it has been a good local derby match for Tring over the last few years.

Folks - Just coming back to this thread it would appear that Aylesbury Vale are still very much alive and kicking and will be in the SSML Premier Division next season, their partnership with Aylesbury United and the big ideas that were announced at the end of last year seem to have gone cold:

I've been trying to ignore you, but couldn't ignore this! Why, oh why, do you insist on resurrecting old threads? Seeing this gave me the impression that something had happened to Aylesbury Vale recently, but it's just another load of Rhodes nonsense - this is not news! Why couldn't you have started a new thread "Aylesbury Vale will start new season in SSMFL" or something like that if you really had to post anything?

Horace - Point taken however as you know I'm not one for starting new threads willy nilly, Gavin style, anyway why on earth would seeing this again give you the impression something had happened to Aylesbury Vale as it was always a 'pending' thread awaiting an update once things became clearer with their proposed merger with Aylesbury United which appears to have gone pear shaped. I don't get you sometimes I really don't, what's wrong with mentioning the Aylesbury Vale Forum instead of criticising and why none of their fans come on here to banter with us lot.

Maldini - Well if that's the case then they are just cutting off their nose to spite their face and it's their loss. I bet they would love to come on here to banter with us as they are quite a knowledgable lot at Aylesbury Vale and talk a lot of sense unlike Harefield United for example when they finally entered the fray.

From the AVFC site:

Posted: 11 May 2007 10:18 pm Post subject: Next season

Aylesbury Vale F.C are pleased to announce that next season Steve Glenister & Kieth Walker will be taking over responsibility for the first team. Several interviews were held for the first team appointment and Glenny and Wally were the obvious choice for the job, with thier experience and commitment to the club.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to Tony Masella for his work this season in somewhat trying circumstances, Tony stepped in after only one game of the season and somehow managed to get us to a very creditable ninth position. Although Tony will be stepping down from first team duties his work with the club will continue in a new poition.

To finally put to rest certain issues we would like to make our position clear with regard to Aylesbury United, there is no further agreement/negotiation betwen our two clubs, the view of the committee at Aylesbury Vale is that the best interests of the club will be served in getting back to our original plans of taking Aylesbury Vale forward as far as we can independently.

On the football front I would like to congatulate Gary, Frank and Karlo for the splendid work with the reserves this season at the time of writing they are second in the ADL in only thier first season with one game to play Tomorrow. (watch this space for the result)

Congratulations must also go to Dave Hawes and Paul Thorpe for thier great work with the under 14's, in thier first season to win the league unbeaten is truly remarkable well done to you all!

Reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. Although we did have discussions with Aylesbury United these eventually came to nothing.Aylesbury Vale F.C will continue to progress through the football pyramid as an independent force.

I have only recently become aware of this forum and will certainly be taking a keen interest from now on.

Steve MacDonald Vice Chairman

Aylesbury Vale F.C

No they probably didn't want to be subjected to your insane babble.

Welcome aboard Steve, glad to see you're maintaining your independence. Look forward to seeing you guys again next season.

Manorborn - What about the trumpeting Town Cryer style, according to your meticulous records how many SSML Club's is that who have now signed up to the Forum since it came into being almost a year ago, can you possibly break them down into Premier, Division 1 and Division 2. Many thanks.
