Wow, he kept the Germans at bay, who even the Germans I know reckon were one of the worst ever German sides. He's suspect that Cannavaro, put big Nickey Quinn up against him and then see how he copes.

They might have been on paper and before the tourney, but come 9 June they were on top form, it was no mean scalp for Italy.

 

And anyway, what did the best ever England side on paper do?

 

Not as much as the David Batty generation, that's for sure.
