Quote from the new chairman:

"Obviously if someone were to say give us millions of pounds, we wouldn't say say go away."

Followed by "But it is one member, one vote, and personally I would not want that to happen becasue we have seen the consequences of that in the past."

My question is therefore, which is it to be?

Maybe the time will come when the society membership do vote to amend the constitution to allow for someone with money to invest in the club so that the club moves up the pyramid without having to rely soley on supporters dipping in to their pockets on a regular basis. Talking about a 25%, or something like that.

If it's done properly, then I am sure that the club would benefit. We all know that there are fewer and fewer sponsors out there and all clubs are clammering for the same few pounds. Maybe worth thinking about in the near future!

A few of us have been down that cul-de-sac before, but it always pigs me off when a club like Brentwood is getting loadsamoney thrown at it for an average of 40+ people a week?
The milk of human kindness can only last for so long surely?

That's right and that's why I said "if it's done properly."

Some people will always argue that nobody will offer a club money if there is nothing in it for them!

You just never know that there may be somebody out there just waiting to be asked.

I'm afraid you've asked and answered your own question. ETFC has little or nothing to offer an potential individual major investor. That's not a criticism of anybody, but it is a function of status and assets of the club.

What is needed is for everybody to collectively work harder in bringing in more individual sponsorship opportunities, and for the club to ensure that the 'products' available fit the market's appetite.

Fair comment SOB. But do we know whether there is someone out there?

Once again, I'll make the point about our fixture posters. If we all do our bit by putting up a handfull of posters we can create a blanket coverage over every corner of the borough. Shop windows, staff notice boards, schools, businesses, pubs, and sports clubs displaying our name increased awareness of the club and makes it far more likely for an investor or sponsors to consider investment.

As a sponser I would not like it if the club fell into the hands of a "sugar-daddy" and as soon as an individual puts in the sort of money that many are talking about then they are going to want to control the club which means they will want the chair at least.

It is my view that sponsership of the club at the rate that my company puts in is value for money. (After all the tax man would take a hefty chunk of it anyway). In return, for what even I consider to be a small amount of money, my company is advertised on the web site, has an advert in the programme which is seen by some 100 or so individuals every week. The company has the kudos of being associated with a relatively successful club. The company pays its banker around the amount that it contributes to the club and I know which gives better value.

It is my view that the club can be proud of its roots and its ownership and the owners should be able to bring success to the club without a rich individual coming on the scene. If we had had more success in the cups this season the sponsership would have been even better value for money but it was not to be. Next season the team has to work harder in those important cup games. My company have never and will never seek a greater say in the club than the votes of its directors who hold a share in the club. That should be sufficient for any sponser.

Take a look at Direct Boot. They have put money into the club through sponsership and we know that they spend a lot on advertising. Is sponsership of ETFC on the home strip worth more than a billboard? I dont know and neither do they but I recknon that they pay less to ETFC than for many of the billboard sites that I have seen and for them it must represent value for money.

We are a mutual society and I feel that perhaps we should pressure other mutual societies (The co-op, building societies, credit unions, trade unions, some good insurance companies) and charities for some more of our funding but that is not a criticism of Les Gold who does an outstanding job for the club.

but if brentwood got promoted a couple of times and got more national coverage from cup runs then the fans would come in eventually as it is a big town and could easily get gates of 500 plus

When will the next poster (for December) appear on the website to enable copies to be printed off and distributed?

Thanks DerekR. I've emailed a copy over for the website. If it's not on there, PM me and I'll email the latest layout to you.

I can't find the poster on the Website.

I can't believe that more people haven't taken posters from the shop, etc.

They are well produced, and clear, but unless there are more out there and updated on a regular basis, it is like pushing water up hill.

On the sponsorship side, any leads should be passed to Les or John

SL, when I raised this with DOY (the producer of the posters) yesterday, he said that if they didn't appear on the website then if you send him a PM he will email a file direct to you.
